Doug's 65 Cyclone build
Re: Doug's 65 Cyclone build
Thanks Jim, I ordered the good ones today. Good to know that others have seen the problem. Seems like I have fitted everything 20 times to get it right.

I took the stock hinges off, put a chisel on the stud pivot point then hit the chisel with a small sledge hammer. It tightened up enough that the gaps would stay consistent.A/FX wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 3:48 pmI had the same issue when fitting the hood on mine, every time I had the gaps set they would change once the hood was open then closed. I tried to tighten up the factory hinges but I was not satisfied with that route. I ordered a reproduction set of early Mustang hinges ( not the cheap ones, go for the quality set) the problem was solved immediately. The hood opened better, and it closed with the gap not changing, and there was no side to side movement of the hood.
Well worth the investment.

Already having paint makes it an easy decision. That paint being a nice color makes it a great decision! Nice baracuda too!DesertRat wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 12:02 pmThanks Joe: it is a lot of work but worth it! The photo below is one of my current driver that started me on the red road of build cars. I had a couple quarts of this custom color left from by barracuda build so it was a natural decision to paint the Cyclone red too----------------------

Jim: the color is custom made for me by my paint guy. When I was buying paint for the Barracuda my paint vendor did four test sprayouts for me. I picked fourth one as the red I was shooting for. They call the color "Doug's real red". Its PPG concept single stage polyurethane paint.Jims65cyclone wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 8:54 pmLooking good, Doug! What's the name of the paint color?

Man, laying on the paint is the most exciting time!! My biggest problem is walking around the project looking at the paint flow and creating DUST!

Re: Doug's 65 Cyclone build
I got the photo story out of sequence. I assembled the car and gapped and surfaced it at the seams. When I was happy with if I drilled 1/8 locating holes in all the movable attachment points. Then I blew it back apart for color and painted the body on the rotisserie last Friday.
Below is the color. A helper rotated the rotisserie and I stayed on one side and he brought the work to me.
Below shows the three colors on the car and they do different jobs.
Tomorrow I start the cut & buff on the body while it is on the rotisserie.

Single stage? Looks pretty good to me for painting in the driveway!
Figuring out where I am going to lay down final primer and color gives me anxiety and keeps me awake at night!
