Mustang Rear End

Post by 1965sedan »

Has anyone ever found a way to put a late model mustang independent rear end in a 64 or 65 Comet ?

Somewhere I seen a 64 ish Fairlane get the '04 maybe Mustang IRS. Comet is pretty narrow though.
I'd rather do it myself if it's done right or not,,,isn't that what hotrodding is all about

OVC put an IRS in their 65 Shelby Mustangs. Im not sure if it’s based on a new car system or their own design.

Pretty clean install!
Wonder where that center section came from?
The uprights aren't forged so probably their own design.
Ujoint half shafts instead of cv joints and the heavy duty inner bearing supports point to the halfshafts doing more than turning the wheels.
Too bad no pics of upper links.
So little weight to control in the corners. Removing a pound of unsprung weight is like 4 pounds of sprung weight in the corners,,,
And that lump of a 9" sure shows up when a small bump is encountered entering a corner, hard on the brakes,,, juuuust before the apex,,,, corner ruined.
Maybe a lot of you guys are hard core draggers and dont get it, cool but have you ever blinked watching the tree come down
and realized 10 feet out ,,, i lose,,,, art at the edge is easily destroyed.
