Re: Ant's 65 Comet Build
The motor had probably 10,000 miles with a stock 64 c4, changed to a mid 70's 26 spline trans and wiped out the thrust un a trip to puyallup good guys and back, fyi this all happened in my 63 falcon and not the Comet
Re: Ant's 65 Comet Build
Wow that's a bummer, mine never made it past 100 miles before we had problems I've read of guys wiping them backing out of their driveway on a new motor.

Re: Ant's 65 Comet Build
So I drive the car again yesterday and reset the timing to 18 initial and 38 overall, feels a lot snappier so I think I'm going to leave it there until I can get it on a chassis dyno. I also got my ebrake working and out the defroster ducts back in. It was good to spend some time working on it and of course driving it.

Re: Ant's 65 Comet Build
Ants, Very interesting thread. I admire your stamina with the bearing problem. I read the whole thing like a mystery novel. No real definite solution though or explanation of what caused this problem? I hope it stays good for you. Great looking 65. Great looking rims. I guess your rear 8.8 swap worked good? That press out tube & shorten then use the short axle is a good trick. You have some awesome skills!

Ant - do you have any recent pics after the new front springs settled down? I got the same ones but am doing the Shelby drop. Trying to figure out if I should get a little taller isolater (like 3/8" vs. 1/4") and/ or shim the perches to keep ride height where I want it.
Thanks man!! JH

Re: Ant's 65 Comet Build
I had done the Shelby (Arning) drop on mine plus rebuilding the entire front end. I found for some reason the front sat to low for my likes. Don't know why and i don't think the shelby drop had much to do with it. Don't know if the springs were getting soft or if someone had replaced the springs sometime in its' past.Rocket989 wrote:Ant - do you have any recent pics after the new front springs settled down? So i added the 3/8" donuts to the top of the springs plus I shimmed the spring perches up with a 1/2" spacer. Total effect was to raise the front end about 1 1/2". Much better now.

Ron - I'm doing the whole ball of wax as well. Springs are MOOG 8090's, same as Ant had used. I've read the drop will typically lower the front 1/2-3/4". I don't want the nose down at all!

Re: Ant's 65 Comet Build
Can't say that I blame you. I didn't want mine so low that endangered hitting speed bumps and taking the heads of critters. The shelby drop is supposed to drop the front maybe 1/2" to 5/8" only. could be a little higher but is at a heigth I can live with now.Rocket989 wrote:Ron - I'm doing the whole ball of wax as well.
