Dash Tach Wiring Help

Post by 66pacecar »

I have a NOS factory dash tach that I just acquired and it has 3 wires:

Red with male bullet connector
Black with female bullet connector
and Blue w/black stripe that has male bullet connector

I have searched many articles and schematics online and everyone has different opinions.
I don't want to burn out the tach as it is NOS.
Can anyone help or provide correct installation of wiring?

Thank you!

The important wires are the red & black. the other is for the light in it. this the way I hooked up mine.

That's weird. I always picked up the signal on the - side. On aftermarket tach's that is.

I looked in my 66 shop manual and nothing about the tach is mentioned.
66 Cyclone GT; 245/60R15's on 15x8's and 215/70R15's on 15x7 Magnum's.
There's nothing like the sound of a pushrod V8 singing at the top of her lung's.

newer aftermarket tachs are different. I used a faria tach, same co. that makes tachs for ford, made in the 60's & it had the same diagram on the tach itself.
