Re: 347 Keeps Dying Randomly

My car has a MSD 6A ignition controller with a MSD distributor. No pertronix or points, no condenser. And in all honestly I am relatively unfamiliar with ignition boxes in general, it was on it when I bought the car. Got the little fuel pump pre-filter in today and will put it on this weekend and if...

347 Keeps Dying Randomly

My '64 with a 347 in it keeps dying while driving. Will idle perfectly fine, but once I get up to speed it just dies. I can pop the clutch in and turn the key and it fires right back up. Replaced the starter cable and and couple of other cables that had cracked insulation thinking it might be shorti...

Re: Starter Help

I wish I knew what flywheel. I haven't had the motor out in the 10 yrs I have had the car. This is the first time the starter has even been pulled.

Starter Help

Starter seams to be giving out on my '64 convertible. It was on the car when i bought it, and it appears from the engineering numbers to be a reman unit originally from a '72 Crown Vic. I have a 347 motor with a 4-speed toploader (tag indicates originally from a '66 Fairlane GT 390). The drivetrain ...

Re: Anyone running 16" Rims on their 64-65?

I believe that it is the stick with 8" rear. Ya I think its the offset and the width (10") of the wheel that are giving the the issue. I need to pull the wheel off and measure the back space to see what my offset is. AR's website doesn't show a 16x9.5 option of my wheel to see what it is. So i would...

Anyone running 16" Rims on their 64-65?

Finally got my rear spring situation (to lower the back end after putting all new SOT front end on) figured out. My 64 has 16x9.5 AR Torque Thrust II's on it with 255/50 Mickey Thompson street slicks on the rear. Lowered the car with the new Ranchero springs but have 1/4" clearance to the front of t...

Re: New Front end... need to lower the back end

Ya, thanks again for the help diagnosing the issue. My retired father is my free mechanic, so not too bad having to do it twice...but I sure am keeping him busy! Can't thank him enough. Thanks Jimmy Joe. the trim was that way when I bought the car. It is actually a raw plastic material with a textur...

Re: New Front end... need to lower the back end

So I got in touch with Tom @ McVeighs. He checked another pair of springs from the same batch that the pair he sent me came from and sure enough he the same measurement that I did on the pin location, not what its supposed to be! He's gonna have a new pair in the mail on Monday!. Will report once I ...

Re: New Front end... need to lower the back end

Thanks gentlemen. Was able to get the springs in, even without disconnecting the drive shaft, its just moved the rear forward to close to the fender well and have no clearance. I still have the iso clamps, just didn't have then in the picture so that you could see the pin location better. They will ...

Re: New Front end... need to lower the back end

This pic shows the old spring and the new spring, and shows the offset of the pin. the New spring is shorter. Measured the new spring and its closer to 22.5" front and 33.5" back... of the center pin. We can get the spring in but it brings the but it moves he wheel about an inch closer to the from o...

Re: New Front end... need to lower the back end

Poboy, they are Falcon wagon springs. They were what was recommended by others, who are running them on their '64. I so I believe they fit.... or at least should.

Thanks guys. I'll get measurements as soon as I can a post back.

Appreciate the help, very much so.

The pin is not lining up with the hole/slot in the rear end housing.

Here is a pic.

Re: New Front end... need to lower the back end

I finally got around to ordering the Falcon springs #42-319 from McVieghs.

When I try to install them, the pin in the center of the spring does not alight to the axel correctly. I am doing something wrong?

Thanks!

Re: Master Cylinder Upgrade

Thank you Jim. So to find the bore, do I need to measure the ID of the line going into the caliper to determine the bore size? I don't believe that the calipers have a number cast into them. They do not look OEM.

Please excuse my ignorance. Again the help is much appreciated.
