Re: Loman's White 65 project

Finally got my timing chain set after 3 weeks of screwing around. Also, bought a battery tray that came in.

Re: Track Report

Took the 390 car out this weekend. We got lucky and won the first 2 rounds, then karma hit us in 3rd round and we were done. Car was very inconsistent as was the driver.

Re: Lavron's '64 Build Thread

Mike, I think we all are on the edge of our seats to see that motor fire off and purr like a kitten.

Is that a can of cranial stimulus fluid in the koozy?

Jim
You can never have to much cranial stimulus fluid. Ok, maybe you can. It might have happened to me once or twice.

Re: Loman's White 65 project

I'm not worried about numbers matching, but what is the difference in these 2 manifold part #'s? Which one belongs on the Comet?

Re: Loman's White 65 project

Tonight I cleaned up the intake with a wire wheel and scotchbrite. Then I removed the broken stud in the exhaust manifold that held the heat tube that goes up to the intake. I didn't think I was going to be able to get it out but I got lucky. I drilled it out to a little over a 1/4" then tried an EZ...

Re: Loman's White 65 project

Mike, you are right. Just a simple grocery getter. I just want something to drive on the street occasionaly. I'm using the KISS plan. Keep It Simple Stupid.

Re: Track Report

We have only been to the track 4 times this year so far. The first 3 were with the 390 car and we won a couple of rounds but not much more than that. The last time we took the black car and I managed to make it to the semi finals. It was kind of weird driving it after driving the 390 car the rest of...

Re: 65 Comet with 390

The latest on the 390 project is we got it back together over the winter. We have ran it 3 times this year and it's been running in the 7.50's. it definately has more oil pressure which is a good thing. The last thing we have done is to take the wore out stock rear shocks off and replaced it with so...

Re: Loman's White 65 project

Next was to pull the old 289 and trans out of the white car. There was so much crud on the transmission and after some scraping with a putty knife I had a discovery. Looks like the trans was replaced at one time.

Re: Loman's White 65 project

The motor is just a 2 bbl motor. Upon disassembly, I found out it has been bored .030 and the crank has been turned and had undersized bearings in it. There wasn't any lip at the top of the cylinders either. All the bearings were in good shape, so we figured there wasn't many miles on the rebuild. S...

Loman's White 65 project

I was looking around in my shed, and after I moved a bunch of crap I found this car tucked away in the corner. Does this count as a barn find? This is the car that I bought as a parts car years ago that had been rearended. I welded on a new back end on the car a while back and then shoved it in the ...

Re: timing chain set

Lol, your right Mike. I got some pics from this weekend. I'll try to get them posted later today. For what its worth, Oreilly's is telling me the timing chain set is special order. . Then Auto Zone tells me they have to ship one in, it would be several days. Who would have ever thought that ...

timing chain set

Local parts store ordered me in a timing chain set for a 289 and it was wrong. I believe it is for a 64 or early 65 motor because the cam gear is doesn't have a raised hub on it like the one that I removed. I thought those timing chain sets required some spacer behind the gear to prevent from rubbin...
