Re: My first 1964 Caliente/Comet project
Thanks Joe. Time wise it took around 36-40 hours. The radius on top part of the scoop changes about every two or three inches but if it didn't I guess it wouldn't have a little bit of rake to it. I made this out of eight separate pieces, welded them and planish them by hand. Yeah, more sculpting th...

Re: My first 1964 Caliente/Comet project
Wow,,,,again ,,,WOW! Really nice work! How do you plan on attaching to hood? Lou Hello Lou ! I made the hood out of 18 gauge steel so it would be rigid enough and not need any extra support. I will cut out the shape I need on the old hood and tig weld the scoop in. Everything was tig welded.....

20230826_111721.jpg 20230826_111701.jpg 20230826_111648.jpg I didn't feel like putting a fiberglass teardrop Hood on the car so I thought I'd just make a teardrop Hood from scratch using 18 gauge steel. I still need to put the vent holes and wire in the back end but I think it turned out fairly wel...

Re: My first 1964 Caliente/Comet project
The reason for the holes was to be able to access the areas needed to attach the stainless trim. However , I could make removable covers for the openings to keep debris out. Thanks guys for the input !

Re: My first 1964 Caliente/Comet project
IMG_20220823_132010.jpg Instead of welding a flange to the tubs and attaching it to the quarter panel I decided to make and inner panel that will be welded to the wheel tub. Basically the wheel tub will then fit a half an inch or so away from the quarter panel and I won't have to worry about weldin...

Re: My first 1964 Caliente/Comet project
Thanks for the kind words and help fellas !
I never fabbed sheet metal until I started this project and it just takes practice and time and a few good tools.
