You say the controllers are putting out 5 to 5.5 volts. I don't know where you are checking that but I would check that voltage right at the gauges themselves. If you have 5 volts at each gauge on the power side (black wire) then check the voltage on the sender side of each gauge with the car not ru...

Did the gauges ever work? Maybe the the sending units are the wrong voltage. Try replacing the temperature sensor on the engine.

I would look at the grounds between the motor and the frame. Make sure the motor has a good ground to the battery.

If your interested in the AOD make sure you get the right torque converter because there are 2 input shafts on an AOD.

I would give Classic Auto Air a call and talk to them. There out of Texas and know how to deal with heat. I installed one of there units in my 65 and it works great. I've had very good customer serves. I did install a ford radiator designed for a big block ford with the inlet and outlet in the right...
