Re: Finally building my 64 Comet
Here's one bent back pretty far ,similar to mine & it has the measurements on there, might give you an idea of where it will be; https://shop.redline360.com/products/hurst-competition-plus-shifter-stick-12-in-tall-7-5-in-setback-5388022-chrome-manual-transmission?currency=USD&variant=40435165757520...

Re: Finally building my 64 Comet
Mine is the stock T-10 and shifter. Agree it is too far forward. I relocated the seat back for legroom (6’4”) which made it worse. Haven’t thought of a fix yet. I have the same problem (6’4”) and I have moved my bench seat back a little bit. Plus I have full harness in my car so if I ever want to p...

Re: Finally building my 64 Comet
I’ve been looking at different shifter arms for my setup, anybody running a stock location floor shifter with a longer shifter arm to reach back to the driver more? Looking at pictures of original shifters they look a little too short, I want to get one long enough to reach back so I don’t have to l...

Re: Finally building my 64 Comet
Got the shifter mocked up on the toploader, I think I’ll definitely need a longer shifter arm, maybe one with a little bit of a curve backwards toward the seats. I’ll see what will work when I get it mocked up in the car. Getting a fiberglass 4 speed jump from a gentleman on a comet Facebook group f...

Re: Finally building my 64 Comet
Well I found a fella not too far from me that wanted to trade my C4 for a toploader he had. Traded the C4, torque converter, flex plate, and shifter for his toploader with clutch flywheel and everything, and it came with the correct tail housing and a burst shifter for the comets/falcons. I’m pretty...

Re: Finally building my 64 Comet
I made the trans mount beefy enough to be the xmember. Same here Fred ,I used 1/4'' plate. it was more of it but had to whittle it down to get the linkages past it . also had to figure out where to put the e brake lever. https://i.postimg.cc/Y0wHWf8H/SDC11445.jpg Smithhe I doubt that a mustang cros...

Re: Finally building my 64 Comet
Bench seat is not the only problem. the reason the shifter is so far forward is the hump brace is in the way so unless you cut that out of the way like I did there isn't room for the shifter. But like a lot of things on these cars if you want it bad enough it is do-able. I had moved my bucket seats...

Re: Finally building my 64 Comet
So I’ve decided to swap from my automatic C4 to a top loader 4 speed and make this car more fun to drive. I have a question though and I am wondering if any of you could help, my car is a bench seat car and I have 4point harnesses that hold me in pretty tight in the seat. It seems like the stock shi...

Re: Finally building my 64 Comet
Well after the whole debacle of the starter I pushed the car in the garage and didn’t touch it for a few weeks out of frustration, but yesterday I was off work and decided to go do a damage report. Lo and behold the bolts didn’t strip the threads they had just backed themselves out. So I got some re...

Re: Finally building my 64 Comet
Maybe you have the wrong starter . possibly you have the long nose cone & need the short one ? think it was groover put the wrong one on ,maybe he'll have some input. I think ones for an auto & one for a manual trans. but yea I think something is not right. When it’s all put together it fits like a...

Re: Finally building my 64 Comet
Went to take it to a cruise-in the other night and the starter bolts stripped out on the trans and the starter was dangling under the car, this is the second time this has happened. First time it happened I drilled and tapped for a bigger bolt and locktite the bolts, why has this happened twice?? S...

Wanted to hop back on the thread here for some help, been enjoying the car when I can between work and life getting in the way. Re: Finally building my 64 Comet
Well this past weekend me and a buddy took the front suspension apart and cut half a coil out of the front springs and I think it was just the right amount, could come down maybe another half inch but I’m fine with where it’s at. Now just have to decide whether to get the stock height Calvert racing...

Re: Finally building my 64 Comet
Well I finally got around to doing something to the car and I’m absolutely in love with it. I’ve spent a ton of money modifying this car performance wise and this is the first thing I’ve done cosmetic wise and I’m so happy with it. Needs to be a little lower in the front in my opinion. Wheels are vi...
