Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Having this red Comet for almost a year has been a great experience for both Cheryl and I. Cheryl really enjoys going for rides, socializing and getting some food. I don't cook much, and I sure miss her cooking! She is not able to drive anymore and the Comet is our magic carpet ride, back into the ...

Re: Chrome Polish

Joe, I have used just about every brand out there including Flitz and Semichrome both of them work well. Then I discovered this stuff, https://dura-coating.com/collections/all/products/blue-premium-metal-polish-16oz It is by far the best I have used for chrome and aluminum. It is not inexpensive bu...

Chrome Polish

Running very short on good chrome polish & supplier has left the planet.
What are best choices out there to clean up minor pitting & add shine?

Looks like MEGUIARS is big now like Mothers was few decades ago.
Big may not be the best.

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

As for car covers. I recommend purchasing directly from a manufacturer like Cover Craft, not a reseller like California Car Cover. ( they source their covers from Cover Craft) https://www.covercraft.com Different materials for different storage needs. I like that! Perhaps a call to Santa is in stor...

Re: Rechromed Emblem Paint

Always used Testor's and a toothpick w/ a small rag in my other hand for cleanup.
Didn't scuff mine. Testor's is pretty tough stuff (or was).

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Another question: Anyone have a good recommendation on a car cover for one of these Comets? Just seems like the thing to do in my messy shop. I kick up a lot of dust. I measured the Comet wheel wells and the rears are 22 inches from the floor to center. The fronts are about 26. Pass side still seem...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Comets all seemed to look a little like taildraggers when they were new, IMO.

Perhaps the skirted rear wheel wells gave it that appearance by hiding the top of the rear wheel? IDK, but seems to be plausible explanation?

Re: Old acquaintance needs help.

I asked this to two different drag car owners back when I owned my Cyclone in the late '80s, Fred. At the time, both of their cars had custom headers made because 'fit' headers were not available. After both of those conversations, I gave up on headers back then. All of that being said, I have Hooke...

Re: New motor bought of market place

I have the original 260 motor from my comet. It to is possibly scrap. Been toen apart and all rusted up from sitting In the garage for almost 40 years same thing with the heads. If this 289 is toast, then that will be the next choice. For now anyway. I've been on the lookout for a date coded engine...

Re: New motor bought of market place

T-10 is a good light transmission and works fine in a street application. Lord only knows how many were used for racing in cars from all major automakers at one time. Were found in the early Cobras & A/FX Comets for '64. Dropped for the stronger Toploader Ford design in '65 for more durability as po...

Re: New motor bought of market place

I was gifted a 5 bolt small block yesterday but needs a lot of work. Been sitting outside, probably scrap but you never know until you inspect thoroughly. On that line, take everything down & have the block Magnafluxed and bores inspected by machinist before you sink a plug nickel into the build. Th...
