Dash pad replacement
In researching dash pad replacements for 64-65 Comet / Falcon, there are a number of vendors like Ecklers, FalconParts, Dashes Direct, etc that sell these ranging from $186 to $279. They all claim that the pads duplicate the original OEM, (Ford tooling, grain, colors etc.) and are mfg in the USA. Do...

Thermostat housing
I have a thermostat housing (water outlet) that leaks. The 289 has an aluminum Edlebrock intake and there was an aluminum housing on it when I bought the car. It leaked so I bought an original cast iron housing. I installed it with a standard gasket and put RTV on it but it still leaks. I watched a ...

Re: Accelerator pedal
I don't think the shafts are interchangeable because the firewall mounts are completely different and the Comet has a bellcrank assembly while the Mustang doesn't. You might be able to adapt a Mustang pedal and the Comet shaft to work together, but it would take some doing. The interior end of the ...

Re: Accelerator pedal
I used a mid790s pedal from a Tbird LTD I had to build a box to mount it on because it is meant to mount directly to the firewall needed moved back about 2-3”b^ ( it is a cable linkage and the stock 77 6 cyl cable went right on it and the carb. The pedal hangs and is not attached to the floor like t...

Re: Greetings from Sarasota
Welcome aboard, Roadie! :D Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with red Comets. We share a similar story. I got my first 65 Cyclone when I was 17, but sold it when I was 20 to get married. Kicked myself for 41 years until I got my current one. We do need to see some pics, though. Here'...

Accelerator pedal
I want to install a Mustang accelerator pedal on my 65 Caliente 289 4 speed. The stock 64-66 Mustang pedal is the “floating” type - i.e. not attached to the floor. Does anyone know if the Mustang pivot rod (the rod that connects the accelerator pedal to the carburetor through the firewall) is interc...

Re: Greetings from Sarasota
Thanks. I’m trying to attach photos but it tells me the files are too big. I don’t know how to right-size them.

Pedal Pivot Accelerator Linkage
I have a 1965 Caliente 289 4 speed. I want to swap the stock accelerator pedal with a Mustang pedal but the Comet linkage doesn't have the hole to accept the Mustang pedal. Does anyone know if the stock Mustang linkage can be used on the Comet? Mustang Pedal Pivot Accelerator Linkage.jpeg Mustang Pe...

Greetings from Sarasota
Howdy all,
Just bought a 1965 Caliente, 289 C code (with a 4 bbl) 4 Speed. I had a similar 65 almost 50 years ago (same red but a 289 automatic). Never forgot what a nice car that one was all those years ago and knew I’d find another some day.
