1965 AM Radio & Reverb System
I'm troubleshooting our '65 AM radio that has a reverb system in the trunk and a control knob under the dash just left of the steering column. It seems both systems work since we've heard it work a few times now but not all the time. We are unsure how the system works, what the reverb does and how t...

Re: '64 Cyclone Steering Wheel
Thanks Rootsy. I will be converting my '64 from generator to alternator and wanted to put an original style steering wheel back in the car and use a relay for the horn system. Would I buy the alternator version to use with the relay? Also, what do the steering include? Do I still need to buy the tum...

'64 Cyclone Steering Wheel
Does anybody know if there's an interchange part that can be used for a 1964 Cyclone? I'm having difficulties finding an original steering wheel and am curious if there's anything else, year and mkdel that will interchange with it. Thanks

Re: Help! 1965 Caliente 289 just stopped running
So the problem was this. BEFORE my problems started, I found that the previous owner had wired/tapped the positive side of the dash tach with the pink resistor wire feeding the coil from the ignition. Once we removed the tach (not working correctly with electronic ignition) it had disrupted the powe...

Re: 1965 Comet tail light wiring - Need your help
Yea I was kinda let down when I bought my manual because it didnt have much about wiring . I guess since it is a manual for 4 different cars they had to skimp on some things. I have seen a manual about 65 wiring only ,was the same color ,had the same look as the shop manual but lots thinner. did yo...

Re: 1965 Comet tail light wiring - Need your help
Unsure why the '65 Comet shop manual does NOT have wiring diagrams in it. My '64 Comet shop manual has dash and complete, front to back diagrams and my '66 ford and mercury shop manual has the same. I feel like I got a manual that's missing these diagrams. Does anyone else who owns a '65 Comet shop ...

Re: Help! 1965 Caliente 289 just stopped running
Good luck! Hope it solves your problem. Very glad your timing chain is happy. Joe Joe, I think I found the real problem. I'm not getting any voltage to my coil from the resistor wire coming from my ignition switch. I simply ran a wire from the positive side of the battery to the positive side of th...

https://itstillruns.com/do-test-pertronix-ignition-7993715.html Joe Step 1. Fine. Step 2. After I removed the positive from the ignitor to the coil and jumped it to the battery, I tested it as described. "Rotate the center magnetic sleeve of the distributor shaft by hand or by cranking the engine. ...

Re: Help! 1965 Caliente 289 just stopped running
Still running stock distributor? If so, check point gap. You may have a failed condenser. That seems to be a common thing these days, judging by others comments. Joe Stock distributor but has Pertronix electronic ignition installed. I checked and verified spark @ #1. Could the ignitor be bad and st...

Re: Help! 1965 Caliente 289 just stopped running
Take the distributor cap off and nudge the engine back and forth by the fan, if you can. If not, use a socket and drive bar on the crankshaft snout bolt in the center of the crank pulley. See if the rotor cap is moving in time with these nudges or if there is slack in the chain. While you're at it,...

Help! 1965 Caliente 289 just stopped running
My wife and I recently bought a very clean 1965 Comet Caliente that has just over 26k original miles for her that had been sitting for quite a while. I removed the fuel line feeding the pump from the tank and ran the the motor from a separate gas can and it ran great. So, to get it road worthy, we c...

It's time. My '64 Mercury Comet Cyclone Project
Hello everyone. I recently purchased a '64 Mercury Comet Cyclone and have already introduced myself and posted a few questions in this forum. Like my original '66 Galaxie custom restomod build, I wanted to start a thread on my build progress. Will for sure need assistance along the way and hope to g...
