Re: Reminiscing on my Comet build

Been reading my 64 comet.com site the last few days. Bringing back pleasant memories of like the first time I sat the car down on the all new suspension (and it did not break  ) that was satisfying for sure so many things that guys who don’t do this kind of thing will never get to experience o...

Re: Update on me.

Didn't see the latest Facebook update on here from Lori that she posted about Mike: Just an update, Miracle Mike continues on his journey - doing well, has started a second round of chemo with absolutely no side effects from it. He graduated from physical therapy this week after completing all his ...

Re: Doug's 65 Cyclone build

Happy Memorial Day, Doug! From what I'm reading, chroming is going through the roof. Environmental regs, from what I've heard but may be from lack of demand. Guys paying $1K to chrome a pair. Good luck! Joe I may have mentioned this before. I had my ‘64 Bumpers re chromed by North Star Plating in M...

Re: 64 K code c4 column shift linkage

There was no bell crank on a Comet, the big Mercury’s had one. Here is a picture from the parts book showing the steering column and related parts. Also a “ K” code Comet is nothing special, a “K” in a comet serial number is a 289/210hp, four barrel, single exhaust. Jim https://i.postimg.cc/zfX84VQ...

Re: 64 K code c4 column shift linkage

I am restoring a 64 Caliente that was an incomplete project when I found it. I am having difficulty identifying the correct linkage setup. From the original shop manual it appears there is a single rod from the lever coming out of the shift tube going directly to the transmission. This a C4 btw. al...

Re: 65 comet, will 63 bucket seats work

I have a local guy who works out of his home garage, he has done all the interiors and tops on the cars I have built/restored. I have not used any pre made seat covers so I cannot offer my experience with them. I purchased yardage of material then took a percentage of it and had it perforated, the ...

Re: 65 comet, will 63 bucket seats work

Thank you again! The thought of the T-Bird bucket is very appealing. May I ask where you got your seat covers done? The main reason for trying to stay stock is because of the very specific design. I’m thinking 62 Bird is probably a really good match to the 63 Comet. [/quote] I have a local guy who w...

Re: 65 comet, will 63 bucket seats work

Fitting seats just takes some thought. Here is what I used- 1964 T Bird seat frames and foam with the original ‘64 Comet seat tracks adapted. They bolt in because of using the stock tracks, if you need them to be taller just make some spacers and mount them between the seats and the tracks not the ...

Re: 65 comet, will 63 bucket seats work

So I’m kind of lost here. The aluminum tag on the bottom of the “Mustang” seats indicated they were from a 62 Bird but then it turns out they were really 63 S22 Comet seats? Aside from Falcon and Fairlane buckets, I am desperately trying to find out what other buckets would be a direct fit in my 63...

Re: Car Lift

I’ve been doing some more research on lifts, and found a couple more that are attractive for my shop situation. They’re two-post lifts with a clear span underneath, AND they’re portable in the sense that the post located toward the center of the shop can be removed and stored against the wall when ...

Re: 1964 Comet Caliente 404 Radio Bezel

Pretty sure the bezels are all chrome rib and the woodgrain is just a glue on. Maybe someone else could confirm? Fred All ‘64 radio bezels for an AM radio are the same, the 202/404 used the chrome ribs, on a Calienti they covered the ribs with a woodgrain adhesive panel, on a Cyclone they covered i...

Re: Doug's 65 Cyclone build

My battery is in the trunk on the passenger side. I ran the positive cable through a protective conduit that goes through the rocker panels to a conduit in the front wheel area then into the engine compartment near the starter. I used 00 welding cable. The ground from the battery goes to a master di...
