Re: Manual to automatic transmission swap
Thanks Lou. I seem to have a vague memory of that technique from years ago used when changing a worn bushing. I will be in the shop tomorrow morning giving it a try. You have given me hope! I'm only 68 and still learning as I go! Ed

Manual to automatic transmission swap
OK folks, I've hit a big snag in my plans to change engines in my 63 Comet. The original 170 is smoking from everywhere, and slinging oil from the rear main seal. So, I got a good running 200 from a friend to swap in. Simple right? HA! My car is an automatic, and the donor engine is from a manual ca...

Transmission Fluid
OK folks, I'm getting close to daily driver status on my 63 4 door. 170 with a Merc-o-Matic. Ordered a Trans pan gasket, after finding out the filter is cleaned and re-used. So we come to fluid. My research indicates in 63 they used M2C-33D fluid which was whale oil based. This seems to be called ty...

Re: Transmission filter
Thanks everyone, I ordered a pan gasket. My old Motors Repair Manual did state to remove and clean the filter. That mystery solved. Now, What fluid to use?! I've been checking on line and get mixed results. Seems in 63 they used a whale oil base M2C-33D. This seems to translate to type A. Later in t...

Re: Transmission filter
Made to clean and reuse...interesting. I don't remember that feature. I will certainly drop the pan and investigate. That may be why nobody seems to have one. I've tried Rock Auto, Parts Geek, Melvin's, MAC's, Carpenter, Falcon Enterprises, and a couple others. I found the correct gasket at Melvin's...

I bought a 63 Mercury Comet with a 170 and auto trans. I'm unable to locate the transmission filter/gasket set for this car? What gives? Does anyone know of a source? Thanks!

Re: The 2022 Comet Gathering is on!
OK, I guess I'm too new at this to be in the loop. I had no idea there was a Comet Gathering. I'm not far, in Georgia, and will make an effort to be at the next one. How do I get info? Thanks!

Re: 63 Parking light
Is the 60-63 parking light all the same, except for lense color? I compared internet photos and it sure looks like it. George thinks he has one, but he wasn't sure it would fit, since mine is a 63, and he has a 62. Thanks again.

Re: New Member
By toasted I meant: Done, ruined. It is corroded, the contacts wont push in to allow the bulb to turn into it's locking grooves. I have been cleaning it and spraying PB Blaster in it to try and get enough corrosion dissolved to allow the contacts to push in. Now that I know it is a unit, and the soc...
