Shelby perfected the 260/289 induction system with a F4B intake, a mild Cam and a the 465 CFM Holley. I duplicated this on my 260 & 289 setup. Runs great!

That "tube" you mention is the breather. If fluid is coming out of there the trans is over serviced.

If it is shifting ok just remove the pan and clean the filter with brake cleaner or gas. (not replaceable). For this you'll just need a pan gasket. Is it leaking anywhere else? Upper and lower stainless retainers come off, if needed, after the door cards are removed. To remove the cards, remove the window cranks, door handle and arm rests. Then with a broom handle or other round piece of wood or pipe inserted centerline behind the card horizontally to bend the card outward...
