Re: Project save the Comet

unless you feel strongly, I say stix with the six. You can always go to the 8 later, but if you're not racing, it'd be fun to get her up and cruising. JMHO (and everybody here knows I'm a stock kindof guy).

Re: 61 4dr. 144 cu. engine Muffler issue

https://www.cometcentral.com/forum/search.php?keywords=waldron&t=2427&sf=msgonly For what it's worth. I have a 64 with 260 and I purchased original exhaust from Waldron's years back. I just reviewed my thread (link above with photos) and it looks like the muffler is also right up against the gas tan...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Enjoy reading your thread, so keep it coming. Earlier you said it ran better when the choke stayed closed a little. Perhaps you have vacuum leak somewhere and cutting the airflow brought things back in line? A trick old Pops has shared with many of us is, once it's running and warmed up, cup both of...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Photos look great. Progress looks great. Driving a Comet any day of the year... sounds great! Soft steering could be: Alignment. These cars didn't have or can't accept a lot of positive Caster, so they tend to drive a little like a shopping cart. I don't know if the 65 has adjustable strut rods or n...

Re: Anyone close to Knoxville TN can look at this Comet

Mine had "metal patches" in the floor boards. Turned out they were pieces of sheet metal riveted in place.

On a convertible, every piece of metal matters.

Re: Anyone close to Knoxville TN can look at this Comet

I am not a candidate to take a look, but you asked what we think, so here's what I think. It depends on what you want out of the car. If you want to drive it as is, then get the price as far down under $10k as you can get it and drive it. If you plan to change the engine out, do the body work, and p...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

https://www.classicindustries.com/product/all-years/mercury/comet/parts/te12.html believe this is for the 65. I think I had one good one and I used mine as a template to make the other side, but I made it out of plywood because that's what I had on hand. A little stronger but uneven. My car is not a...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Looking great. That trunk mat looks original to me. If it's not, it's a close replica, as the pattern and such look right. I believe the material is called Burtex. It's pretty durable. Those panels to cover the holes on both sides of the trunk were originally similar to peg board (but without the ho...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

What a very nice Comet... although it's a little young for my taste (that's a 65 v 64 joke :) With regard to the Power Steering: unless there is something radically different between 65 and 64 (I don't think so) and if it's original, there really isn't any bleeding required since the return line goe...

Re: 63 Pitman arm connector piece

difficult to tell from the photo, but do you suppose the car originally came with PS and somebody removed it and replaced with this part? If the car had PS then the control valve would have been attached to the pitman and the two bolt holes closest to the left side of the drag link and the PS cylind...

Re: 1965 AM Radio & Reverb System

I don't have specific knowledge of that system, but there were plenty of them in cars in the late 60's and even early 70s. My understanding of what they really do is create a slight (adjustable) delay (or echo) that comes from the rear speaker. I believe it also removes some of the bass frequencies ...

If you’re doing a concours resto the book is invaluable.
Agree with Joe on this (Mannel book is a must have). And I see that it's now available in pdf form. which should weigh less than the book by a long shot ;)
