To remove springs open the hood, take a handful of 2-1/2" - 3" nails. Put about 5 or 6 nails between the spring coils and then lower the hood slightly. The coils will pinch the nails and not allow them to coil bind. The springs should all but fall out. Reach in and grab them.

Do what you want and makes you happy. I'm not a fan of the gasser look but then again, there are many who don't like the Pro Street look that I like.
