Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Everything is looking good. That walnut insert will look good along with the other walnut trim. How much clearance do you have between the tire and fender when you cut the wheels all the way to the left in your first picture?

Re: New Member - ‘63 S-22 Convertible

Welcome aboard, Ryan! :D Surprising your wife with a 50 year old car and telling her that's how you're getting home half way across the country speaks volumes about your marriage. Glad you've started working on it. There's plenty of advice to be had here, free for the asking. What are your pla...

Joe, if that's really you, Halleluiah!! If it's dictation to your "secretary", a big thanks to them. Either way, we hope you're back to your usual volume of sage advice soon. :D

Joe Travers

You may have noticed that one of our most prolific posters, Joe Travers, hasn't posted since 12/26/23. https://www.cometcentral.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=16710 Turns out Joe suffered some serious complications from a mild case of Covid-19 that he had in early December, and has spent some time in...

Re: San Diego Chopped ‘64 Comet

I came across your thread a while back and thought you must have fallen off the edge of the earth. You kinda left us hanging on your project. Great to see you back. You do some really good custom work, but you're definitely going to need windows and AC in DWF. Not sure what happened to your pi...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Hey Chris.........since you're combing through your new ride to see what it needs, Rockauto has a lot of parts on clearance sale that you might want to shop through for stuff you might need.

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

Also picked up a rear flex brake line as a spare. The current rubber one has some minor abrasion where it was zip tied away from the exhaust pipe. Also have to put on a new rubber vent line on the rear axle. Was just old and broke apart. Add this to the list. Be sure that the rear brake hose is lon...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

I'll be shocked if the 235 works on the front, but if you can do a test fit for free or nominal charge, go for it. I think those Magnum 500s have a 4.25" BS on the 7" rims, which might work to your advantage compared to my 3.75" BS. If they'll let you test drive it, that's great. If not, take a coup...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

On the tires I would like to do this: - Want to keep the Magnum 500 wheels if possible. I think they are 7 inch wide rims. Not sure the backspacing dimension? - Get at least 1/2 inch more clearance in the front tire to fender clearance ( now about 1/4 inch) That means a smaller diameter tire. - On ...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

At the time, the Comet "performance" tire was a 7.35/14. The closest 70 series tire you'll get to that is a 205/70/14. That would reduce your width a little over 3/4" and diameter a little more than 1" compared to your current 225/70/14's.

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)

The tires are 225R-70 (14 inch) Cooper Cobra front and rear. The rear tires have rubbed on the inside of the fender well. Car has air shocks. Haven't checked the pressure yet. I think 80 is recommended with out the trunk loaded? Front tires are within a 1/4 inch from the front lower edge of the fro...

Re: Where does the time go?

I'm about to retire after 45 years with the same company. You've got me beat. I retired after 33 years with the same company. That makes us part of a dying breed. Very few people spend an entire career with the same company anymore. I have to agree with A/FX Jim. I've been retired 15 1/2 years and ...
