Re: T5 Swap

Thanks guys - the Comet has fiberglass racing buckets and really, the stock T10 shifter location with the hump is a bit too far forward (though it is a Hurst shifter so doesn't stick back as much). If no harm no foul on the brace, I'll hack away!

Re: Carb Irritation & Possible Replacement

Thanks all! I agree a 600cfm carb might seem a little big, but Roy said it for me above - primaries are under 300cfm on these. Using the stock secondary spring on a 260ci engine, I doubt the secondaries would even start to open until well past 3K rpm and never open much past half. I ran them on seve...

Re: T5 Swap

Roy - Crud! So using the stock tailshaft setup, what crossmember will work? Do you just have to fab one? Also, I read where cutting the tunnel brace is no big deal structurally, but a lot of folks seem to piece/ weld it back together around the cut; is that necessary at all?

Thanks...JH

Carb Irritation & Possible Replacement

The Comet currently has an Edelbrock 8867 (600cfm) carb. Motor is the original 260 rebuilt with a Comp 268H cam, Wieand dual-plane intake - rest is stock far as I know. Runs just OK (not all carb here though methinks, I need to check a few things ignition & timing related items also) but the biggest...

T5 Swap

If you're using the T5 with Fox Mustang bellhousing and stock shifter location (no S10 tailshaft deal), can the original crossmember (it's currently a T10) be used with or without modification? I see drop-in crossmember's but only for the "converted" T5's.

Thanks...JH

8.8" Swap

In looking at options, the 8.8 swap is pretty appealing. I believe the Comet currently has the original 8" w/ 3.50 gears and a limited slip diff. That said, it's the original housing & drum brakes. A 4-pinion, ribbed case setup is about $800 bucks...plus the disk conversion is another ~$500....and i...

Re: UCA Shaft Caps

Thanks vicegrip. I tightened them up & they did seem to snug & everything looks OK. The crazy thing is, they've been out...the springs, ball joints, perches, etc. were all replaced; not to mention, the rear bushing on that same side has a grease zerk! I'm stumped on why someone would go to all that ...

Re: UCA Shaft Caps

That's what I remember (on the caps)...it was just like a threaded screw. If so, nope...this cap doesn't have one. Odd but dunno. Yep, that's what I've read/ heard on the strut rod bushings...same as rear upper bushings on the Fox cars - they gotta be able to deflect/ flex! I guess I'll cut the pipe...

Re: UCA Shaft Caps

Roy - Thanks! It almost looks like it might be but I picked at it & couldn't tell...how are the plugs installed? I'll be happy to take a whack at it (literally)!!! Always fun trying to figure out what someone else did. I read up on how to torque 'em (the length of pipe, etc.) & until I get the welde...

UCA Shaft Caps

So in greasing the car today I found the shaft caps on the driver side UCA were loose. Also, the front cap on the same side has no grease fitting. Lot of suspension work was done on the car so having ONE without seems goofy. I've read these largely get tack welded to prevent 'em backing off, but can...

Re: what did you do to your comet today?

The other night, but had to slap in a new starter - had a rare night scheduled with a friend to throw a few down the hatch after we got the kids down. I intended to pull the car out in the street so I could let it roll down to the end of the block before cranking it up. Hit the key - whirring noise!...

Re: Tristan's build thread....

Hey Tristan - are those the Hedman 88400 shorty headers? I've read they fit fine w/ an auto but won't clear the z-bar on a manual w/o a little "custom" adjustment. If you can take a pic or two installing/ installed driver side header, that'd be great!

Looking good!
