If you think the drain is plugged, I've used a leaf blower in the cowl to blow stuff out. Otherwise it's remove the fender or remove the heat tube underneath (I think).

I've never tried the molasses route, but our founding father (Mike) swore by this method. He was, as legend has it, "Thrifty" and molasses was the cheapest easiest way to remove rust... in the Ozarks.

I have used evaporust, and as reported it works very well.

I'd say that's a hen's tooth. My 64 has one and it still works, but I've looked around and never found another one. They only used it on the 260 in 63 and 64. Once the 289 came out, I think they dropped it. Unless you have AC, you should be able to get by without it. Might need to increase your idle...

Well, if you want to try to deduce whether the radio works and the antenna is the issue or if the radio doesn't work at all, just grab a piece of copper wire (like the a chunk of house electrical wire, and shove it in the radio antenna end or touch it/clamp it to the connector, etc.) assuming there ...

I vote stick with the 289, but I'm driving a 260. Difference in HP seems negligible. Any tweaks you can do to a 302 you can do to the 289 and still be close in HP. But tweaking the 289 means you keep driving her now, while you tweak, vs spending time and and money swapping. Like was said though, if ...
