Re: Strength/Body repair question?

And does anybody feel strongly that I should remove the rear axle before raising the car? for weight reduction purposes?

Re: Strength/Body repair question?

Speaking of my insanity in trying this, does anybody have drawings/diagrams/exploded views of the body assembly for the 64 Comet? Would be helpful to see how it goes together.

Re: Strength/Body repair question?

All good advice. So Riverbum, My thought is that once I get it in the air, to check the doors and the way they close and the distance between the door and the outer rocker. Assuming that geometry is still good and the doors still open and close correctly, then I'll start cutting. I'll keep checking ...

Re: Strength/Body repair question?

Thanks Roy, Planning to raise the whole car by going around wheel by wheel and jacking it up one cinder block at a time until we get the whole thing in the air enough to get comfortably under. I'll use some 1 x 6's or something to distribute the weight a bit and run one front to back under the front...

Re: Strength/Body repair question?

Roy,

The desire to ride again is keeping this thing together.

But seriously I guess it's the door, the outer rocker, the top of the inner rocker, and the seat support on that side.

The other side is much better ;)

Re: Strength/Body repair question?

Sadly, the bottoms are not good (at least on one side) in fact they are largely non-existant.

Re: Strength/Body repair question?

You guys are so practical  Thought about that Ratical, but it would require cutting some of the good remaining rocker out in places to get the "tube" inside or cutting the tube into pieces. And then not sure what you'd weld the tube to (other than perhaps front and back) but you can't access th...

Strength/Body repair question?

So I'm the father & son comet project with the 64 Caliente Convertible. http://www.cometcentral.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2427 We've been slowed due to really rust inner rocker panels. Both sides are bad, passenger is worse. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/ee514/CarbondaleCaliente/Body%20an...

289 4 barrel on a 260?

Any reason why a 4 barrel intake manifold off of a 1965 289 won't go on a 1963 260? While we're on the subject... What would you say a 1965 289 with a four barrel intake and carb and a 6 bolt bell housing with a 3 speed be worth? All presumably working (but not guaranteed), certainly not rusted and ...

Share your thoughts on this '64 Caliente Convertible?

http://fayar.craigslist.org/cto/2273414908.html Saw this on Craigs. An obvious shortcut to my father son project ;) but summer is here and this is tempting. Spoke to the owner who says this is a 302 and C4 auto. I'd still drop my 260 in to take it back in time and sell the 302. He says he's changed ...
