Joe;I have heard that too,it makes sense though!Just seems wrong to me to have an electrical circuit and electric pump submerged in GASOLINE!!!! I set the timing on every thing ,just like I told you.I set point gap by eye. very old mecs taught me to make do with what I had and I didn"t have anything as far as tools as a kid. A mechanic once told me that the pumps are cooled by the fuel that surrounds them and if you regularly run the fuel level below 1/4 tank they heat up more and fail quicker. Anyone heard that? May be B.S.
