I can not find a picture of actual racing my Cyclone, but I have one in the pits from 2007

Back in my high school days, running my 67 Chevelle SS 396, 4spd, 456 gears from the factory.

It was stock 350hp, can’t find my time ticket, but it was a quarter mile, ran low 13s with some borrowed slicks.

Found a pic of my 66 Chevelle SS, ran this daily carrying mail in Arlington VA 1971/72 timeframe (when I got out of the Army, first stint). Drove it to Manassas VA 1/8 mile strip, threw the slicks on, uncapped the headers and had fun. Ran consistent 7:40s, don’t remember my speeds. Ran an LS6 454 with a rock crusher 4spd w/a Mr. Gasket V-gate, 4:88 gears, straight axle, and was a blast to drive. Had to sell it when my wife and I moved.

The only time I took anything to the track was a 78 suzuki gs750. had a blast. I was probably 19-20 yrs old. Though I didn't know the process of it all. I thought the time trials were the races because they went on & on,,, a big wreck on the interstate that most of the racers were hung up in traffic because of it. so they kept rolling in & so they when they would let them time trial all of the bikes could go again. cars too. so I was ready to load em back up thinking we were done & started popping tops . It was getting late probably 10 pm & I probably had close to a 6 pack & was loading it up when the races started,I thought they were over. :? so I rolled it back down & got back out there. Come off the line in a big fish tail , scared a few people in the stands ,I could see them leaning back trying to get out of the way, but I never let up . but lost because of the spinning. we had fun!

Cool story Johno!
I too messed up first time at the track. Just got the C running and flat towed it to the track basically to see if it t would stay together through a couple a passes.
Couple problems I remember, drove through the water box with treaded tires, no dry hop to dry them, once I did get going I broke the the battery tie down in the trunk. The battery fell back and shorted killing the motor, that allowed the battery to fall forward unshorting it and the motor lurched back to life throwing the battery back shorting it and killing the motor again... Took a while but finally sorted it once back in the pits.
Sometimes we laugh at people, sometimes we get laughed at,,,

lol, yep we all got some memorable stories. My first time at the track with the 66 first run, hole shot pulled so hard my bucket seat latch broke and I slid all the way back. I could barely reach the gas and clutch pedal, and those that know the V-gate, I went from 1st to 4th just to get to the traps.
Found an old piece of 2x4 laying in the pits and braced the bucket seat to the back seat. It held up good enough to get a couple more passes. Thankfully it was just Friday grudge match night.

Raced my '68 Mustang for a year back in the '70s across this stretch of bridge in a very rural area where I lived @ the time. All of the locals with muscle cars would meet @ the foot @ an old bait stand parking lot and paired off. I quit flogging the car when I started driving it to college because I was pinching pennies. Couldn't afford to break anything after replacing the rear tires and clutch.

As far as I can remember, it was usually against Mopar guys. Definitely remember a GTX and Challenger in the pack along with a couple buddies' Demon and Duster. My friend w/ the Duster sold it and bought a bubbletop SS BelAir w/ a dual quad 409. It was the only bowtie I remember.

I can't find the proper image at the moment but this is son Sean and I at Greg Moore racetrack in Chilliwack BC in about 2012.
It all started when he was about 10 and I got him a gokart. Soon after I found another one so it was off to the races. Sunday mornings we would head out to the industrial area and set up a little track and put down about a zillion laps till we ran outta gas, broke something we couldn't fix or it was supper time.
Soon after we started class racing, we did ok but had a great time. I was never so close to him as when we were racing or debriefing after. We weren't father and son we were teammate- competitor, it was ,,, Priceless!
Racing got sidelined for college, the big city and a different lifestyle. He got into motorcycles for a while,,me first love and we rode the coast and Vancouver Island together then one day he phones,,, bought a kart. Moved up to 2 stroke, had a blast but then started a family,,,,
In this pic Sean was racing 2stroke and I had rented a 4 stroke racer for the weekend. I lived 9hrs from the track so wasn't about to get serious but if I had've been closer,,, even in the renter I was competitive!
We went to a Sprint car race at Skagit in Washington state last fall and we had the best time, the racetrack is where we connect.

I guess I race rifles… out to 1000 yards, with aperture sights. Have managed to put some bling on my “I love me wall”
