Posted today but written earlier this year this article talks quite a bit about Comets and their history in /FX and in funny car classes. I remember all this back in the day, reading about it three months after it was happening. (Lead time for printed magazines and pre Internet, no newspaper coverage)

Early /FX cars including Comets
Re: Early /FX cars including Comets
Thanks, great read!
Great idea that got outta hand.
The altered wheelbase cars were one of the worst ideas to ever happen! Just a little bit worse than sky high straight axle sh!t. In my most humble but accurate opinion.
But Funnycar had to come from somewhere.
Bit of a rant in there I'd say,,,,,,

Cool read, Jim! Thanks
If I remember correctly, Don Nicholson blew the body off the '66 flip-top the first time he ran it in competition and had to build a new body for the next race of the season.
Still looking for any history on '63 1/2 Comet drag cars but coming up goose eggs.
It's a shame. They were lighter than the '64s.

Thanks, John! Yeah, ragtop Custom. Have seen this but didn't put the sponsor name to it.
The white '64 has been for sale for a year now on a showroom floor in Indiana.
Reckon no '63 1/2 cars got the FX treatment, even though FX was a thing that year.
I'm guessing the car in pic is in stock 260 form.

Where in Indiana? I may have to make a road trip to see it.

<1.5 hours away from me. I used to stay in Greenwood when I went to the Formula 1 races.

I used to stay there when I coached a girls travel fastpitch team. USFA Nationals were held in the area. About a 3 hour drive for me
