Re: 65 Cyclone straight axle on BAT
Beats 99% of the 'gassers' I've seen.

Re: 65 Cyclone straight axle on BAT
Nice looking car. I like that it still has a full interior in it.
1965 Mercury Cyclone former drag car, 1971 Boss 351 engine, 4 speed, ladder bars, etc. Now returned to a street car.

I wonder how it drives? only straight axles I ever drove came that way. I hope it drives better than those

Re: 65 on bat
I was looking through the photos of the car and noticed something that seems strange. It has a Windsor based engine and two Holley’s but it looks to me that the carbs are installed backwards. If you look at the vacuum diagram’s location they are on the LH side and facing the front of the car. I know how the Holley’s are mounted on my engine and they are opposite of this installation.
It will be interesting to see what kind of action this one brings.

Re: 65 Cyclone straight axle on BAT
Back in '70s, me & another guy locally both had black '68 Mustang HTs. I had 289 & stock suspension, he had 460 & straight axle. He got behind me one day on two-lane highway and we were getting it. He would catch up in the straights and fall out of sight in the turns. Never passed me

First thing that caught my eye. FE-style set-up on a small block.

Re: 65 on bat
I know the FE had the linkage on the RH side but did they also have the carbs with the secondary’s facing forward? I would think that the intake design would determine if the carbs could be mounted either direction.
I have no hands on FE experience.

Yes, the factory A/FX 427 FEs did.
Check out the Stroppe car you posted going up for auction soon, picture #6 & #7. That's one that will be very interesting.

My 67 GT500 has that same setup and the secondary's face forward.

I guess I’m not too old to learn. I’ve been stuck in the small block world forever.

Re: 65 on bat
bid is at 20,000 with 5 days left. I kinda feel like the straight axle will hold the price back some. To each his own but just as if it had a chevy motor that axle would come out first thing if I had it.
