A BLAST FROM THE PAST
A BLAST FROM THE PAST
So in my newbie introduction, I had mentioned how I used to hang out at the bowling alley as a kid back in the 1960's and early 70's. It was in LaPorte, Indiana right next door to North Shore Lincoln/Mercury where my dad Kerry and uncle Ron both worked.
Here are a few pieces I was able to dig out of the family archive trunks from then. 1960's and early 70's clippings.
The license plate was a recent purchase which I found on Ebay.
Enjoy.

Cool, I'll take the 64 Continental!
1965 Mercury Cyclone former drag car, 1971 Boss 351 engine, 4 speed, ladder bars, etc. Now returned to a street car.

Lol. Are you sure we couldn’t talk you into the Wards motorcycle?
I see they had a 1963 Mercury Meteor wagon on the list too.
I saw a beautiful funky green colored one on YouTube yesterday. Beautiful. Those had to be pretty rare.
Re: A BLAST FROM THE PAST
Can you imagine, the total inventory was $76,000.
One car is that much today.

Had to look it up since you mentioned it. A '68 CJ Cougar Eliminator is worth twice that inventory now!
Boss' Continental usually goes a little less than $76K. I watched this auction last year. It got pretty wild!

Re: A BLAST FROM THE PAST
The Cougar is a ‘69 model. They eliminator was not available in ‘67 or ‘68, only ‘69 & ‘70. The ‘64 Comet wagon or ‘63 Meteor wagon would be my pick. The Meteor is more obscure, it would be a great hauler.Joe Travers wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 6:29 pmHad to look it up since you mentioned it. Re: A BLAST FROM THE PAST
Yep, my mistake. Didn't notice the price guide jumped a year
Was thinking of mid-year Mustang searching (and '68 Miss Chicago)

You guys are a hoot!!!
Re: A BLAST FROM THE PAST
I would estimate that Miss Chicago 1968 is now in her late ‘70’s! ( kind of breaks your bubble doesn’t it!)Joe Travers wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 6:57 pmYep, my mistake. Didn't notice the price guide jumped a year

Nah, she's like a sister to me
I would vote '64 Comet wagon if one was on the list, Jim I was really digging that one in San Francisco that didn't sell on BAT. Very cool car

Cool list, Doug
Jim's idea of finding a plaque would be super find. Good luck

Re: A BLAST FROM THE PAST
I once owned a ‘64 Comet wagon, it was my winter beater for a couple years until some clown rear ended it while it was parked. It pushed the rear of the car into the back seat, broke all the glass from the front doors back. I had no money at the time to buy anything else and driving my Cyclone on salty roads was out of the question so I built a bulkhead behind the front seat to keep the heat in and drove it. The car was so rusty that I eventually parted it out and junked the body. I still have misc. parts from it in my parts stash.Joe Travers wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 8:47 pmNah, she's like a sister to me

I replaced it with a ‘64 Parklane Marauder which was equally rusty but it got me through two more winters before I sold it.
