Thanks Roger the drive was a great time minus the trouble.tweaked wrote: ↑Sun Sep 27, 2020 11:57 pmJoe lousy that fan came apart on you. lucky it didn't get your hood. Back around 1982 I saw a flex fan go through the steel hood of a 70 camaro. I have a stock 5 blade flex fan off one my 390s, think it was from my 64 Marauder. The motors I ran it on only ever saw around 6000rpm. Worked great at cooling but no where good as my twin electric puller fan. I would be scared to hang a fan on the motor I run now as it sees 8000rpm often.
Very cool to be able to go for a drive like that with your son.
Roger
Hoping the new fan lasts a long time.

If I were a rich man, I'd buy you a Cammer and a straight axle.
Re: what did you do to your comet today?
several yrs ago,,me and some friends were at the street machine nationals in SPRINGFIELD,MO....a friend had a 327 66 nova with one of those fans,, he was sitting at a red light when that very same thing happened,,,only he was lucky more so then you,,,the blade went stright to the street,,,no damage what so ever......that why when OL POP reaches over to rev one up by hand I never lean over the rad.....you just never know when something might fail !! take care and good luck.....popcomethead wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 2:26 pmGetting fixed as we type!popscomet wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 12:20 ami HATE IT ,HAVING A FAN COME APART AND DOING A BUNCH OF HURT !!!! but ain't you the one that was bad mouthing 64 comet in another post ???....the real comets started out in 64 .. you just upset the comet gods......now just fix it and keep your tongue in your cheek..................................................pop

I've always been partial to the '64-'65 hardtops but couldn't pass on the '63 1/2. A little Space Age look makes me fuzzy inside. Reminds me when I was a kiddo. I'm working on a friend's '65 202 this week. Waiting on parts for mine.
You driving a Cyclone? I have a crazy '64 Cyclone story for ya if you do.

Re: what did you do to your comet today?
JT,,,my comet is not a cyclone,,,it;s a cal....but it has still the orig 5bolt 289,,but I removed the AT and now it has a TL 4spd,,,with a very healthy 289 with 2x4 carbs ,,,msd ign,,,dumps an 8in 3,50 ls gear,,,tri y headers and a great camshaft...POP has had this comet and always drives it for the better part of 30 yrs,,,,been on 2 power tours and in several states in the past.....thank you..........my wife drove a 64 cyclone for a few yrs and I owned another 64 4spd cyclone that I sold shortly after buying it,,,,I bought a 65 cal 4spd and parted it out for a mustang I was building....today I look back on it and wish I parted the stang out and kept the comet,,,,thanks pop

Okay, I saw the date on your signature picture and didn't know this was your current car.
She's a beaut!
Yeah, Mustangs are the 'thing' nowadays but we used to buy good ones all day long for less than 1K. Not special to me.
Love the longer wheelbase and the lighter weight of the Comet.
Hey, it may not be a Shelby GT but it can outrun one with the same drivetrain!

Being happy is what it's all about!
I'd take you up on your taillight project if I had a S-22. Cool idea!
Last time I saw that one was on a '67 Cougar back in the 70's.

I'm pulling a set of ill-fitting Lakewood slappers off today.
Gonna roll the fenders and pull the air shocks, install OEM to lower the rear and get the soft ride.
I'm not planning on launching the rocket but I'll install proper ladder bars if I get a hop between shifts.
Get to do a little dicking after I pull the wheels and check the drums. I think the housing is original but the chunk's been swapped.
Original 3.25 car but it's a lot shorter than that now. I'll count the driveshaft revs after I get it up to figure that one out.
