Full restoration Comet Caliente 67 from Spain

Post by Deiv_67 »

Hello everyone, here is my presentation post where I tell my story. I'm Deiv, a Comet enthusiast who lives in Spain, and last year I decided to buy my dream '67 Comet in North Carolina. My story:

viewtopic.php?f=24&t=17883

After the presentation, I go on to post the first photos of my adventure. When from the other side of the world it occurred to me to buy my beloved Comet, a dream for me. It cost me $4,000 and was abandoned in North Carolina. It is a C code, original 289 v8 engine, but it did not have an engine or gearbox. The condition when I bought it was this:

First photos, in North Carolina where it was abandoned:

To say that in Spain I don't know any other Comet, and in Europe I know very few, and in a very bad condition. Here everyone with a lot of money buys Mustang, and that's why I wanted to buy something different, and I decided to buy this 1967 Comet Caliente unit. I paid for transportation to Florida, where from the port of Miami it came to Spain with many spare parts purchased. I buy most of the spare parts at Rockauto and Jegs. The restoration is being tough, but it is being done screw by screw, in detail. I have put a modified 302 engine in it, also made new from scratch (I will detail everything with photos) and a C4 automatic gearbox. I will continue telling about my adventure, and my dream about to come true!!! Thank you all.

I continue commenting on the restoration on the following pages...

Good to see another big body Comet here. How long has your build process been going on? Post some pictures of your progress when you can. All the best with your build.

It's been about two years since I brought the car. I will upload photos of all the progress, which has been many.

We continue with the condition in which the car arrives in the state of Florida (in Miami), where the rubber is removed from the windows and it is observed that the car is really bad and with a lot of sheet metal and paint work.

Let's remember that I bought the car solely for photos, blindly, and only having seen photos. Even so, seeing that it is very bad, I dare to ship the car and bring it to Spain.
Look what love there is here with American cars, that a child got into the car to fantasize and pretend that he was driving the car. The man with the car transporter was very nice!

It’s great to get the youngsters involved with your project, that way they can appreciate it much much more. Wow, a semi loaded with boxes of parts too, hopefully you have most of what’s needed. There are some places that sell parts for our model, like Autokrafters, Classicindustries, falcon parts, and eBay, to name a few.
All the best with your build.

Hello! yes, I am buying everything I need, through Jegs, Rockauto and ebay. Ebay is where I buy the things I need from Autokrafters, which actually have a lot of Ford material. All of these companies ship to Spain without any problem, so I have everything I need. Soon I will continue posting more photos, especially of the rear differential group, because I need to know if it is 8" or 9". Do you know if the original Comet Caliente 67 is 8" or 9"? I upload a photo in case you can help me, thanks in advance!!!

The 67 Caliente came with an 8” rear. If the tag is still on it, that should help ID what it is. Here’s a site that may help https://fordification.com/tech/rearends_ford04.htm
Our 66 came with an 8” the tag should have a WDW on it, if no tag there are other ways to check. But I’d say if it was a V8 car, and the rear is original, it’s an 8”.

You have helped me a lot, in fact I had read in the forum that the ones that have a key-shaped socket to empty were 8". Therefore, now you have just confirmed it for me with the reference. Thank you very much!!

Little by little, it is taking on color. I'm uploading some photos of some seats from a 90's Mustang (which are ugly to the max) modified so that they are low profile. They were disassembled, the entire metal part was cleaned, sanding the rust, and applying anticorrosive. They put in new foam, new fabric, and they have great new seats. Here in Spain you can buy some parts, but not nice standard seats, due to the weight it is impossible. So, I hope that some true American car lovers will give me their thumbs up and approval!! Greetings!

You know it👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍!!
The more you do yourself the better I like it!
If you don't think you can do it, start and don't stop.
I'd rather do it myself if it's done right or not,,,isn't that what hotrodding is all about

Deiv_67,
Your doing a great job on your car! Thank you for posting the pictures of your car and progress too. Pictures will help us and you as you continue your work. I like your seats. We are so spoiled with new cars and the comfortable seats and features. IMO you will like the later seats!
I will be checking on your progress. The Comets are new to me. So I may not be able to help much on the specs and details. Your doing way more to your car than I had to do with our Comet. Enjoy the journey! Sounds like you have good plans for the car.
Regards,
Chris and Cheryl
