Wiring questions

Post by Tre107 »

Swapped from a 289 to a 351w in my 66 comet the motor is a 1978 and the alternator wasn’t charging so I put a new one on. I hooked it up and still no charge, what wires are supposed to go where. I have a ground a positive a fld and an alt wire how do I hook it up right and is it possible if it was hooked up wrong I could have fried the new one?

You could take your alternators to an auto parts store to get them tested. If you know your alternator is good you can focus your troubleshooting elsewhere. Like the voltage regulator and wiring.
All the Mustang Falcon and Comet vendors sell new alternator harnesses. If yours is hacked up better to replace it.
As far as which wires go where, a factory shop manual would be the best reference to get that info.
Wish I could tell you for sure but all my reference books are for 65.
Good luck!
