Front Springs

Post by 67Cougar »

G'day,
See the attached photo:
There is a block in the front LH spring as per the photo.
It is firm in the spring but not wedged in tight.
The LH end seems to have been broken off something but I'm not sure.
I don't know if it is road debris that has managed to get stuck in there.
Just like some opinions before I pull it out.

Look forward to any comments.

regards,
Derek

That's a coil spring booster/spacer. People use them to lift, stiffen, or make up for weak springs. My car had 3 on each side. The previous owner took a lot of travel out of the springs and made it ride like a straight axle.

Like Red said, it's a spring spacer. They usually are helix-shaped so they can be twisted or "screwed" into the gap between the coils. Should have a recessed cavity in the end to accept a 1/2" ratchet. You should be able to twist it out using a ratchet.

Log wagon ride device, so yeah, it's debris alright!
Is there one installed in the other spring?
Hope the car levels up in the front after you twist it back out. If it doesn't, time for new front springs.

Thanks everybody,
I'll check the ride height both sides before I decide what to do.

Check the condition of the spring perches and top insulator while you're under the car.
If any of the rubber is cracked, it would be time to replace those with the spring while you have them out, if that's your final decision.
Let's hope it is level across the front after all is said and done.
