What stock rear end

I have a question.

What stock rear end came in a 66 mercury Caliente? Was it a 8 inch or 9 inch? When I try to look up this info all I find it parts for a 9 inch.

I believe if it was a factory 289 it was an 8”. Big block would have a 9”.
