Carburetor Identification

Post by kcomet67 »

Does anyone know what carburetor would have come stock on a 67? It is a 2 barrel and I just noticed today that the thermostatic spring housing was unscrewed. Currently I am running rich enough to kill next summers mosquitoes

Should I just go ahead and convert to a 4 barrel? If I go 4 barrel what cfm? Stock motor. Im thinking 500 cfm.

Pretty sure it's Autolite 2100.
500 cfm 4-V is more than enough w/ stock cam & springs.

put on a 350 holly 2bbl..save the money and work of going the 4bbl route,,,,,JMO,,,,but if I could repair what I have already on it...that's the best idea,,,,always think about the purpose of the car!again this is JMO......good luck pop

Well I ordered a new 2bbl carb for now. Just to get the thing on the road. At some point I will upgrade to a 4bbl. I already have the intake manifold just need to get a carb. (I kind of have a stockpile of 302 and 351w parts)

Anyone have any suggestions as to where to wire the electric choke up to?

I have a bone stock 302 right down to single exhaust like factory,,,can't hardly hear it running,,,,so if you decide to go 4 bbl,,,this is the path I took on my 77 bronco,,I got a ci stock intake for a 4bbl,,best I recall it's actually a 66 289 intake,,then I used a 390cfm holly 4bbl,,has the kick down for the C4,,,this set up works perfect ,,gets great MPG....slips around in the woods while hunting ,just never no worries,,I'll have to look at it to recall for sure,,but my electric choke wire is hooked to the white wire coming off the back of the alt,,,,,I THINK !!,,,I did this about 20 yrs ago,,,,but if you need I can raise the hood and check for sure,,,but I think I'm correct.....pop

Ever run across a 450 Holley, Pop? They may have been aftermarket replacements for 289 Autolite 4100s.
I've never seen one until the other day cruising EBay. Looked up the list # and it checked out.

I might have,,but not sure....I might have not known what I was looking at.....I sure like the 390,,,A friend of mine ran one on a 300ci 6cyl with headers and alumn intake in a 79 ford 4whl dr...it was great.....my son came up with a 4 bbl alumn intake for a 2.3 4cyl ford,,,we put it on a race engine and robbed that 390 off the bronco,,,that sucker would tear the pasture up,,,but the race track made us take it off,,we even tried to get the track to let us race that night and not take any money if we won or placed in the top 5,,we just wanted to try it,,but they said load it or take it off,,so we never got to try it on the track.....pop

My late friend, Mr. Bill ran 390 Holleys on his 300 dirt track cars years ago.
Amusing when his son put one on his 429CJ stroker engine in his tow truck. Worked out well 'cause the truck is gone but the engine still lives on a stand in his shop. :D

Thanks Pop no hurry. I got the carb on and the idle is extremely high. My memory has failed me and I can’t remember which adjustment screw is which. But I need to idle it down a good bit.

It would be I reckon but he never turned the engine high, just pulled slow around on the farms.
Truck had rear tandem axles. Lots of grunt w/ 460 crank.

Nothing to do w/ 289s but goes back to what you said about purpose of the car.

Big screw on driver side that rides on the throttle shaft arm for idle speed. Turn in until screw hits arm, screw in 1 turn to start.

After that, set idle air/fuel adjustment on screws on front of the base plate. Turn 'em all the way in until they bottom out but not tight. Back 'em off 2 turns to start, then turn 'em in until you get fastest idle, reset idle speed w/ screw in first pic. Best to use vacuum gauge if you have one, adjust air/fuel screws for highest vacuum.
