Parts Source for 66 Cyclone

Post by Porkchop »

Hello,
I'm new to the forum and have a 1966 Cyclone that needs a lot of work. Probably hasn't been on the road in 40ish years. It needs a lot of sheet metal work (inner cowl, trunk gutters, floor pans) and miscellaneous parts (door handles, trim, etc).

Does anybody know of a good used parts source for these vehicles? I know some parts can be bought new, but they are very expensive. I'm located in Michigan.

Thanks a lot!

Welcome! You'll find a lot of good information and great support in this group.

As far as parts go... Google is your friend. :) Some parts for these cars are difficult to impossible to find. Sometimes you get lucky with ebay.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the welcome. I attached the only decent picture I have of the car. It is pretty rough because (it appears) it spent much of its life sitting outside. As for sheet metal the biggest concerns are floor pans, inner/outer cowl, and trunk seal/gutter. It needs more than that, but those are the make or break parts.

It came with a Mercury 410 on the side which I have mostly rebuilt at this point. I have also sourced a toploader that I am assembling.

I actually did find a source for parts that is close to me and was from this forum! But if anyone has further suggestions that would be great! It is very difficult to find parts for these cars.

Auto Metal Direct has a lot of under body sheet metal for your car. (wheel wells, floor boards, etc.) It really doesn't look too bad in the pictures, but you have a lot of work ahead of you. Should be awesome when done.

Yes, I have seen some reproduction sheet metal that will work for some parts. It doesn't look bad in the picture, but once you start digging you find that the reproduction stuff doesn't cover everything that I need.

You all have fantastic looking comets/cyclones!

Does anybody know what these parts are? They came with the car, but I have not figured them out.

410 and a Toploader sounds like fun, Porkchop! :D

Can't help w/ the pics but your car reminds me of 390 GT HT I had my eyes on many years ago, same color and stripe. Original owner bought it before he shoved off to Vietnam. Came home, drove it a few years and parked it in his garage. When he told me he was going to give it to his son, I quit bugging him about it. He passed and son sold it while I was away.

The silver piece with the rubber part is a pinion snubber. It bolts on to the front of a nine inch rear end center section. The other parts I need to think about.

I was thinking that may be a snubber but wasn't positive.
Are those bumper bolts in two of those brackets? I think the two larger ones on left are bumper brackets for rear.

Joe, when you said something about bumpers you sparked my memory. Those two big brackets towards the bottom left are rear bumper brackets. Good chance a few of the smaller ones above are bumper brackets too. The very top bracket looks very familar but I still can't place it.

Top bracket is a license plate bracket. Here is a link to the same part for sale on eBay.

You beat me to it by 5 seconds. Ha!!
The longer bracket with the bolt looks like front bumper to fender but don't hold me to it.

I think you may be correct on that one.

Sold my '66 Fairlane to drag racer from Florida 33 years ago. Lots of water under the bridge since then.

Wow, thanks for the answers! I guess I shouldn't throw these away, haha.

Yes, 2 of the smaller brackets do have bumper bolts in them. I should have put 2 and 2 together.
