my first car

hey, hows everyone doing :) im new on this website but it seems like a good website for maverick/comet owners!! so i acquired a 77 comet 2dr all original everything , 73xxx miles on it ( just hit 75,000 on the way to school today) and i honestly dont know if its the 170 ci or 200 ci? all i know is that its an inline 6 ! someone help me out? im taking an automotive technology class in highschool and im working on getting ASE certified, im working on learning more about cars , slowly and steadily, anyone help me on my engine size??????? ill upload pictures later if anyone wants to see,

Welcome aboard. Good luck with your comet and your studies. Yours is probably a 200 as I don't think the 170 was used any more in 77. Count the freeze plugs on the exhaust side of the block and there should be 5. The 250 eventually replaced even the 200 but don't know when. Should also be casting number and build date on the block behind the starter.

it is a 250 :) read it on the side of the cylinder head thanks for the information!

Wow a 250 six! I didn't know that.
That's larger than the first small block V8s (221) and darn close to the 260 v8!

Man don't sell that 250 short,,I bought a 1975 ford pu from a friend of mine that he had put a 250 6cyl,standard shift with a 3.70 rear gear..I rode in it and was so impressed that I had to have it.....drove it many miles then got a wild hair in my rear and put a 65 289 with a 4spd overdrive tranny and power steering with AC,,couple of years later we (me and son)put a 460 c-6 with a set of 6.50 gears and turned it into a mudd drag truck but thats another story....... :shock: pop
