The front u-joint has all inside clip cups that are 0.9975" in diameter and outside to outside is 3.1400 on both. The rear u-joint has two cups with a diameter of 0.9980 and two that are 1.1240 diameter that are both outside to outside measuring at 3.2100, all four are inside clips although the two larger ones don't matter since they are bolted down. These however do not seem to exist. Has anybody else ran into this?
Ford started using u joints with larger cups on the pinion yoke than on the driveshaft in the 60's and yes the larger ones also need the clips!! This keeps the joint centered.
If you go down to bottom of page it explains the two different cup sizes
Thanks Lou. I gave up and dropped the shaft, yoke and old joints to the local driveline shop. I will see what they come up with. When I come up with a solution I will post the part numbers for anybody else that fights this problem in the future. On the good side my new CSRP disc brakes are on their way and should be here Friday.
A common u-joint on 65 falcon w/v8 and mustangs is a #429/369 (NPD #4635-4 Precision) for the front. #430 (NPD #4635-7 Precision) for the rear. At least what i used on mine.

It has been a few years ago, but I am pretty sure I have u-joints on my Comet that have mismatched cups. If I am not mistaken the spiders are the same and only the cups are larger and smaller (with-in reason and very similar sized) My uncle owned a parts store at the time so we just kept pulling out u-joints till we had the right set of cups and I ended up with one extra u-joint because I had to buy one each and mix and match cups.
Thanks for all the help. I have good news. For $90.00 the local driveline shop sold me two u-joints and installed them. For future reference the part numbers are NE 1-2173 and NE 1-3600. I hope that helps somebody else in the future. I went out around 9 last night with a flashlight and installed the driveshaft and it works perfectly. Unfortunately the knock while coasting is still there. At least I know it is not the U-joints.
