1965 comet Shift collar swap out

So I found a dude who had a shift collar but I had to buy the
Entire column.
It’s from a 64 comet—so should work, right?
Would it be easy to swap out the entire column
Or pop off the shift collar?
I’d have to paint the column for one thing
Any tips on popping off the shift collar?
Do I need to hit out the pin to take out the
Shifter?
