61 comet strut rod and lock nuts

2 questions: what are these lock nuts on the strut rods? never seen one like it. Is there a way to remove them without a nut buster?
and: seeing that I did not know about the lock nut, i destroyed the threads on one of my strut rods. Is there a different year I can use
instead? closest i can find is 1964, looks somewhat similar. Otherwise i will have to have one custom made.
