T5 swap

Post by 63Custom4Door »

I’ve got a 63 Comet that I’m doing a T5 swap. Engine is a 71 200 six. I’ve got a few T5’s from behind V6 applications. I’m using bellhousing C7ZA-8394-A, a T5 adapter, and a new steel flywheel. I have a question about the 9” clutch. I want to use the diaphragm style clutch and was curious if the fox body 200 six diagram clutch part number would work with the existing bellhousing and clutch fork. Also any other input on these 6 cyl t5’s as far as input shaft length, etc. Thanks!

T5 matched to suitable rear axle ratio, will allow rowing through the gears carving a mountain road or cruising on an interstate faster than ever imagined in '63 safely within the 200's torquey powerband...

not sure what a six cylinder T5 adapts - after 93 they have integral BH' AFAIH ? '.

typical Fox body 89-93 T4 and T5 will easily adapt to a C7ZA bellhouse with a simple adapter plate for SBF Toploader 3 or 4 spd to T5 for @ $150. Often used Fox body 4 Cylinder T5 fits same but has gearing not optimized for torquey' low RPM small block six. V8 T5 gearing with low gear rear axle yields best gears for accel' or cruise with reasonable RPM...

Fairmont "clutch kits" for 200 application are Diaphragm for the 9" 200 FW. Included are PP and Disc and PULL type TO bearing. C7ZA with original PUSH type clutch will require original PUSH type Throw Out bearing.

T5 shifter box typically interferes with Falcon/Comet body support brace. The widely available "C4 Conversion Mount is a good fab' reference for a T5 swap.

Excellent info. Thanks! I have an 8” rear axle with 3.90 gears I’ll be using. Cylinder head and block milled. Larger valves in head and machining for 2 barrel carb flange. Holley 500 2 barrel carb with a Proform metering block (so I can properly tune the circuits), Clay Smith cam (H-6474-0-B), appropriate valve springs, adjustable rocker shaft from a 170, header, exhaust port divider, 2 1/2” SS exhaust W/mandrel bends and Borla Pro XS muffler. When I get started on assembly I’ll make a thread with pics. I’d love to get a shaft mount roller rocker set up but not sure where or how much and if available.
