Wanted: 4100 Secondary Rod

Post by kellycj »

Looking for a secondary rod (diaphragm to throttle shaft) for a 4100 carb. How this thing is gone is anyone's guess, but the carb seems complete except for that rod. Anyone have some parts carbs that they can spare a throttle rod? Thanks.

No - that's the arm the rod connects to, though. There's a primary side rod on ebay, dang it. Sooner or later I figure I'll run across one, or find a cheap parts carb. Hoping to just find that rod for now - want to rebuild the carb, but need it to be complete first. Thanks for posting that up.

Maybe you could shape some bendable rod to work https://www.ebay.com/itm/Solid-Brass-Ro ... 632-2357-0

Not sure what the thickness of the original rod is but I could measure mine and let you know.

Thanks. Thought about fabbing something out of a rod that runs the primary side, but not sure if I could get it right, or if bending on it might compromise the strength some. Shouldn't be too much stress on it during operation to be honest. The 2100 version is likely the same/similar to the 4100, and those are pretty common, and I think the primary side is actually a little longer, so there is room to work.

Hey John, is the end of the rod pinched (where it fits into the pumper lever) or C clipped to fasten?
IIRC, the rod gets inserted into the pumper lever and twisted on the pinch, then attached to the throttle plate lever?
Haven't owned a 4100 in 35 years or so. Just testing my very vague memory.

It's pinched flat Joe, so you have to thread it in from the other end, I think the front pump rod is same way, right?

Don't get me to lying! Haven't rebuilt one in a very long time.

Check PM I sent you, Kelly. Not a bad deal, from what I can see.

Crazy story: I bought a rebuilt one once, back when you could still get them through retail auto parts store. Installed it & drove a couple miles until the engine started stalling. Pulled into a buddies' place to check it out. Pulled the top off and the clips were missing that attached the needle valves to the floats! Just so happened he had part of a kit with the clips. That was a small miracle.

After thinking about it, I think after you undo the front end of the rod you can just turn it so the pinch can slide through the slots on the sides of the hole in the arm, like the front pump arm. Does that jog your memory Joe?
