Thanks for sharing the pics Jim ! & anyone else who shared pics on here & all the FB comet pages.
Kevin I'm sorry I accidentally deleted your last post this morning about the first gathering. I was trying to reply to & had quoted you & decided to redo it & somehow I deleted your post & mine. You were talking about all of the gatherings &people & car count on the very first gathering & it was 10 comets on the grounds including Mike driving in from California & Corky trailered his in. There may have been another one that stopped in for little while. Corky is the guy who first brought up the idea of a gathering there the year before the first one, after vacationing there in 2011.
LOOKY WHAT I FOUND! All good John, I actually still had it on my screen and did a copy and paste before I refreshed.
I realized that I didn't recognized the origin of the Gathering and I think it is important to know if you don't. I wasn't involved in the first one so I'll ask that any of the originals add to or correct what I know/believe.
The year was 2012 (finally settled by Mr. Wayne's documentation) there were a handful of members here that got to be long distance friends and they decided that they needed to get together one of them suggested Pigeon Forge and made contact and created the relationship with the hotel that we still lean on today. They made the trek and I believe had 7 cars at the first event. I know many of those originals but some I have not met cause I didn't show up til the 2nd year. And it has grown since then, there was a time that broken 10 was the goal, we had 29 this year and frankly we dealt with some rain so no doubt that effected turn out, the record is 39 and again with documentation from Ron and Jim (I have deemed them our historians). Over the years we have added a the drawing, goody bags for everyone who came for the Gathering, a grand prize (drawing not judging), T shirts and there has been request to bring back the cruise. As for the cruise, we stress no rules so if someone wants to take a ride and someone else wants to follow them then you'll have a cruise. If someone plans a route and wants to lead it, we will gladly announce it and try to get the word out in case folks want to follow along. I personally made myself car sick driving in the mountains and 4 wheel drums aren't conducive to follow the leader closely, this is where the see a need satisfy it comes in, anyone wanting to head this up, I'm all for it.
The originals:
Corky (possible the instigator, might have been to every Gathering)
J.L.
Mr. Wayne (only car that has been to everyone, maybe only person)
Pop
Riverbum (I think)
Mike (I think I have the name right, who drove his 63 Vert from California to be a part (now what's your excuse again?))
And I believe another participant I'm not familiar with
Thank you to the originals, you have created a great event that will continue to solidify your legends.
Careful your character's showing!

Great info !!
Mike's (RCMike) car not a vert though , it's a late 63 hardtop.
Rode around SoCal with him in it.
Pic is 2014, mine 64 and Comethead's 65 in background. https://photobucket.com/share/08f31440- ... 9a3e006005
I'd rather do it myself if it's done right or not,,,isn't that what hotrodding is all about
Cool! thanks Kevin! after deleting it I couldn;t remember what I was going to add to it other than there were at least 10 comets, with possibly one other, & also about a 50 merc & a ford of same era but they stayed.
Groover with his son & I were there without comets,Maybe Jim? I'm pretty sure Dave (RIP) was there without a comet too. & there may have been another member or 2 without cars. maybe Pugs ?
members Mr & Mrs. Danny Mansfield was there with his Ivy Gold Hipo 65. the car that everyone had read about in hemmings.
Oh & not only did Mike drive in from California he was sending pictures to us along the way & narrating his adventure. he had messed up & stopped for coffee in Nashville & it was during the CMA awards, fest or something & it was very crowded so that threw him behind so when he got to pf he got a room & went straight to bed but we had a blast that weekend & we even talked him into driving on to the east coast before turning around & heading back across the country. what a ride!
I'm with John, I recall 10 cars (finally) the first year. We were there (without our car) but so dang motivated afterward that we stopped at Rural King and bought a new welder to get to work, pledging we'd drive our car to the second one... which we did
