Going to try and move all my posts here that are relevant to the motor build and install on my 64 Comet build

Cool 8) Might inspire an early owner to hop up his ride.

And see there might be alternatives to a normal SBF build Even if that is what most will likely do not saying a 6 build is the answer someone may want to bui a 4 or even a V6 whatever trips tier trigger or they may have access to, my I6 build was a challenge for sure but rewarding when it fired off the first time and since I love doing and building and finding parts that just bolt on that many would not know about, myself included without hours of research and finding the parts I needed many unfortunelatly rare (almost all the needed internal engine componets are rare enough there is no aftermarket replacements only refurbished parts, except the Bigblock Ford parts that I hoped would work (pushrods) but everything has worked quite well together and made a motor that never was but should have been Shows you Ford could have reached in the parts bin like I did but my bin was larger taking a ‘77 motor and using ‘92-93 parts to correct issues from ‘68 that should have never been except for EPA Strangling regulations, because Ford and all other makes we’re trying to hit some magical average the average ‘economy engine bore the brunt of the detuning I guess they thought grandpa and grandma were not really interested in going fast but gas mileage so it was a trade off the V8s still got a little dunking as well I am sure, you V8 guys would know, what you have to change out on these motors from the late 60,early70s to make them perform better(timing sets, cams, etc.)I have no idea Anyway I am just saying we each have ways of doing things some of us are just cooler 8) than others    I enjoy them all, keep posting everyone on what you do and I will keep reading them

OK first update on some of the stuff I am "working" on, kind sticking with stuff I can tinker on right now, so this is a little bit of Planning Stage because I haven't actually done it but I have made few investments.

A mockup of my dual carb setup to see if I can actually fit them on there, which I can but will have to add a bracket to hold the outboard carb ears. I know it is not the best but will probably use a little JB Weld under the base to build a flat surface where the bracket will attach and to bond the aluminum plate to the cast iron intake along with bolts, of course

Will be going old school or cheap on this and not taking it to a machine shop to do any the milling and cutting I need to do on the intake but am going to grind and file it by hand and cut the openings by hand, I did all the work myself on the Offenhauser and it worked fine 8) I will need to mock up my linkage as well and OK first update on some of the stuff I am "working" on, kind sticking with stuff I can tinker on right now, so this is a little bit of Planning Stage because I haven't actually done it but I have made few investments.

The carbs are Motorcraft 5740s that came on Ford Escorts so I don't think 2 of them will over carb the engine, I think Escorts were like 98 cid or something and this is going on a 200 so should be about right. I have a few ports to block on the 5740s as soon as I figure out what all of them are for.this is from when I was going to install the 200 but since have gone to the 250

While I am talking about plans for the head, I am thinking about having larger valves installed when I have the head work done, people have been successful putting 1.75" intake valves and 1.50" exhaust valves in, the only thing that worries me is sometimes they accidentally cut into the water jacket on exhaust valve seat #1 and then it has too be welded from thermostat opening  I also need to find a early 170 rocker arm assembly so I can have adjustable rockers, if I can't find one I can always take the one off my current motor but would really like to leave it alone. I picked up a 144/170 adjustable rocker arm set for $10 off of a 60/61 Falcon and is currently installed on the250 but I decided the 250 needed three carbs as aopposed to the200 for the sizing to be correct

Hopefully this is

ESCORT CARBS Lavron’s 200/250 buildPhase 2buildthread

I do not feel there is a need to make a progressive linkage with these carbs they are already progressive mechanical 2 barrels

The carbs are Motorcraft 5740s that came on Ford Escorts so I don't think 2 of them will over carb the engine, I think Escorts were like 98 cid or something and this is going on a 250 3 so should be about right. While I am talking about plans for the head, I am thinking about having larger valves installed when I have the head work done, I installed the largest stock valves from a ‘7 7250hardened exhaust seats the originals were pitted bad anyway, 200 head on the car came from a a stuck motor and had at least one broken ring.new valve guides and Vito nsealstpeople have been successful putting 1.75" intake valves and 1.50" exhaust valves in, thtsometimes they accidentally cut into the water jacket on exhaust valve seat #1 and then it has too be welded from thermostat opening  too risky for me  I think the ‘77 spec valves work fineI also need to find a early 170 rocker arm assembly so I can have adjustable rockers, if I can't find one I can always take the one off my current motor but would really like to leave it alone. I picked up a 144/170 adjustable rocker arm set for $10 off of a 60/61 Falcon and is currently installed on the250 but I decided the 250 needed three carbs as aopposed to the200 for the sizing to be correct. So with all that rambling to summarize what I did.
‘72 flattop”M” head off a 200 .’77 spec valves, with hardened exhaust seats new valve guides with positive locking Vito n valve seals.
Other things not mentioned thus far. Cup and ball pushrods from a solid lifter 64 Galaxie FE (perfect length with the 60/61 144/170 adjustable rockers no need to have custom push rods made flat tappit lifters from the same car but hydraulic
