cooling system filter

Post by pilotlarry »

I'm working on a 65 mustang, with a 72 200 motor. We had the cooling system pressure back washed, heater core replaced, and had a new 3 core radiator installed. The mechanic suggested we install either one of those screens in the upper hose, or another kind of coolant filter like what is used on big rigs. what is the general feelings here?
thanks
Larry

Hi Larry,
I put a filter on all of our cars, you would be surprised how much gunk comes out of an old block even after hot tanking, my 64 fairlane daily driver still fills up the filter every few months even after 5 years , the filter stops the radiator cores blocking up especially on a new radiator(they are very expensive here), you just have to cut the top hose & fit it in. there are a couple of ones made here in Australia i`m not sure if they are avaliable over there but i`m sure you could get one sent over, here is a link to the two I know of, I use the tefba one myself . http://www.tefba.com/index.html , http://www.aeroflowperformance.com/cata ... ng_systems

Most Mustang vendors sell a version of the Gano filter. Heres CJs http://www.cjponyparts.com/radiator-hos ... 973/p/RHF/
Ive always used the brass model. Not cheap but itll last forever. And Ive cleaned some pretty massive chunks out of it.

If you have new cooling system parts Id recommend a filter.
