I think common sense is one of the best tools for wiring or anything else for that matter. putting solder where it may get flexed, bumped, moved or anything of the like could cause problems. I never did like to solder, because I'm not very good at it, it is more aggravating, time consuming,& adds expense. so its good to hear that it isn't always best,& the reasons make sense.the wicking up the wire,,,making that area of the wire brittle if flexed makes a lot of sense & I have had this happen. but if the factory used solder on a certain area I would too if I thought it needed it. It's good that we all share our experiences with different ways of doing things. we can each take what we need from all this info & make our own choices. but keep common sense handy,it goes great with too much info!

I totally agree with that statement.

I was just out on the web looking at terminals earlier so any info on what is a good brand helps, there is certainly a lot of them out there and I am sure most are not all that good.

I want to do a good job on my wiring, probably want to go overboard  so certainly I want to know everyones best practices and I can pick what I like.

I really haven't done much wiring planning on my project until now (or in the near future) I did get the bulkhead connector and the two fuse boxes, all of it appears to be well made stuff, I will post up a picture of one of the boxes later (what you can't really see in the ad pictures) I like that they appear water proof, but I think they are marketing them to boaters as well.

Thanks for the advice guys.

See Ya,
Mike

My wife works for a Marine dealer. So what they stock is the best that they have found from their tech's experiences. There are good colored crimp ends. I am lucky to have a drawer full of copper non-insulated ends from a late neighbors stash as well. Soldering is something I've always enjoyed so I will use it when applicable. And for what it's worth, I unwrapped the entire Falcon harness and every end is crimped. I'm sure speed is a factor in manufacturing as well.

Now, if I get my continuous duty solenoid and sheet aluminum for the glove box hole I'll wrap up the wiring on the Falcon over the weekend. Then it is install the front and back glass, headliner, interior and tear up the pavement.

Oh, and on a side note; we have tickets and pit passes for Sundays race at Homestead. Anybody but Dumbgano!

Would love to be there myself? Don't have to worry about the brand that didn't make it to the championship race.
My order of support, Kyle B, the Fords then anything but a GM.
Dumbgano, lol

I'd rather do it myself if it's done right or not,,,isn't that what hotrodding is all about

Been seeing these advertised a lot lately. they seem pretty good just by looking at the ads ,but then so does a lot of other stuff that turns out to be junk.

That's what I have. I've only used one but it worked.

Haha, Pop, I used to be. I guess since I've had this Tundra for 18 years you could say I go both ways. And when it comes to who's driving Ford's, I so wish Chase would've gotten a Ford ride. I was a big fan of his Daddy.

I used to be a huge NASCAR fan! Mark Martin #6 Valvoline was the man even if he never won a championship. I took a lot of trash talking from friends when his sponser changed to Viagra (aka boner mobile). Then the unthinkable happened, he went to the evil empire of Hendrick. I still cheered for him, but it was very difficult.

I ordered some of these off of wish.com for around $13 for 100 assorted ones, I guess I will try them out as well. I also ordered some 1157 LED bulbs, they are so cheap (like $1-$2 for a pair plus about the same in shipping) I ordered several different kinds/styles to see which I like the best.

I want LED headlights but not finding any cheap enough for me  I can get the H4 LED bulbs for a few dollars off of wish.com but not the casing (that I like) I did find some on eBAY with halogen bulbs so I may get those and run them and then when they burn out get LED replacement bulbs. https://www.ebay.com/itm/5-3-4-Stock-H4 ... 2525045510 There are also some that are just replacement lenses/housings but they are almost the same price and would be more with the LED bulbs added to the cost https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-PAIR-5-3-4-R ... 3497214539

All the stuff off of wish might turn out to be junk (from China) but at least maybe it will get me set up and I can replace them with better stuff latter, they are just light bulbs after all.

Dan got me thinking again about my wiring harness, been bouncing ideas around in my head anyway but have been doing so much to get to the point of getting the block to the machine shop I really have not started putting anything down on paper yet, however, getting ready to get the engine off to the shop and need to think about it eventually returning, which would be great, but my car has no electrical system right now, so a couple of thoughts to bounce out there and see what the consensus was.

I want to build a few separate harnesses and the first one would be the basics for the car to run, that being; Ignition wire (probably going to run HEI 1 wire distributor, 2 with the tach. wire), starter circuit, charging circuit, cooling fan relays, and if I go with a electric fuel pump wiring for it, last would be possibly the engine gauges.

That is what I want to concentrate on first, I will try to get something drawn up and post so you guys can critique it and make suggestions, looking for suggestions or let me know if I totally forgot something here before I start drawing this up.
