Perhaps it they are abandoned-in-place after the previous owner put in a new shelf over their stereo speaker install??

Package Shelf Tabs
Does anyone know for sure what these five tabs are for? They just seem to get in the way of installing the back of the back seat. I'm thinking of bending them down and returning them to flush, where they came from 59 years ago, but surely they had to have SOME purpose, eh?
