New Owner

Post by NLComet »

Bought this ‘65 kinda sight unseen based on a few pictures.

Have it home now and starting to to dig into what I have. Looks like it was an original 6-cyl car, blue and white 2 tone.

Seems to have a 8.8 and 289 swap, Monroe Air shocks, and lord what else I’ll find out.

Plans to manual swap and disk brakes up front. Maybe rear as well once I find out what 8.8 it is.

Previously a Florida car, if anyone knows anything about it.

Welcome!
Looks like a great start!
Has the steering been updated to V8? It would be a good time if you're going to upgrade brakes.
Don't remember it gracing the pages of this forum in the past.
I'd rather do it myself if it's done right or not,,,isn't that what hotrodding is all about

I’m assuming the steering is original. Manual steering and brakes.
It’s a turn key car as it is. Near mint interior and excellent condition outside. Just need to modify as desired.

Hello, welcome! If you enter the chassis number, we can tell you many details about the vehicle, from the engine it came with from the factory to the plant where it was manufactured. All the best!

Welcome on! :D 5th digit in the vin will tell you what motor it had from factory. Next time you are under the car take a pic of the steering linkages & we can tell you if it has the upgraded 65V8 manual steering which was upgraded for the new mustangs that were coming out at that time.Lots of us use CSRP, which has the most reasonably priced & most complete disc brake kits & also I've heard Chockostang is right there with them.

Thanks guys. I decoded the VIN and that’s how I know it was a 6-cyl, and 2 tone. Hard to find any pictures of a 2 tone Comet. Aparently the roof would have been white? Has 2 letters for the pint code area.

Welcome aboard! :D When it has two letters for the paint code, the first letter is the lower body color and the second is the upper body. Here's the decoder I use:

NLComet,
Wow! Congratulations! Great looking Comet. Surprised me that it was a 6 cyl. Just had not heard of many in the 2 door Caliente versions. Looks like your going to have some fun with mods. I like the color combo. Need some more pictures of the interior!
I like the disc brakes and dual Master cyl conversion on our car.
Regards,
Chris and Cheryl
