1964 Comet Convertible
Hello and thank you for allowing me to join this group. I have owned my 1964 Comet Convertible for about 2 weeks now and I love it.

looks like a Crites hood with an aftermarket or maybe Pontiac hood tach
I'd rather do it myself if it's done right or not,,,isn't that what hotrodding is all about

I apologize for hi jacking the thread but I thought you guys might be interested in a brief history of the dual scoop hood used on ‘64 Comets.
The Crites reproduction hood is a close representation of the original style hoods used on the 21 A/FX race cars but it is incorrect in a couple of ways. The hoods made by Plaza Glas (Toronto Canada) for the A/FX cars had a separate plenum under the hood to funnel the air into the carburetors, the Crites hood is made from two full molds and is laminated together making the underside of the hood smooth. Plaza just attached the plenum to the underside of the hood, leaving the rough fiberglass texture. One other detail missing from the Crites version is the indent for the hood ornament, being that the original race cars were supposed to be “like factory” Plaza made sure that the hood ornament was present.
When the Comets left Dearborn Steel Tubing (the company that converted the 20 Caliente’s and one wagon into A/FX cars for FoMoCo) they all had the teardrop style hood. During the season the dual scoop hood was developed and distributed to the owners of the 21 cars. Most of them converted their cars to the ram air style hood. The hood on my Comet was made from a mold that was pulled from an original Plaza Glas hood. Only two were made, here is my hood:
