new member from NW Oregon

Post by no excuses »

New guy from NW Oregon. I just (today) brought home a 64 comet project. It was already started in the project phase. No motor or transmission, No floors, coil spring buckets gone, no heater parts, ect ect. Body has some rot, but is fairly straight sonsidering its 59 years young. Car came with a 4" drop straight axle, narrowed 9" with 31 spline shafts, Calvert split mono leaf rear springs, 15x3 10 spoke front runner wheels, Subframe connectors and a 12 point cage.

Previous owner was going to make a gasser out of it and I am going to carry on with that. The front and rear are just tacked in place. I will need to move the front axle back a bit as the tires are hitting the front lip of the front fenders. I am going to widen the subframe connectors and I am going to mini tub the rear so I can fit 28.5"x10.5". Not sure what I am going to run for tires or wheels except the 10 spoke in the front. I have a eaton truetrac for the rear axle, just need to figure out what gear ratio and carrier for it

Power will be a 351W bored and stroked out to 408", 11-1 compression ratio, hydraulic roller cam, 242-252 @ .050 duration, .563-.579" lift with a LSA of 110. On the way home with the comet I stopped and picked up the motor and we ran it on the dyno. 562tq at 4800 rpm and 570hp at 5900 rpm. Thinking of running a C6 auto for a transmission, I kow its heavier and it eats up more HP then a C4 but when I decide to add the giggle gas to it I feel the C6 will hold up better.
I was going to build a Tbucket but switched plans and decided this was a better way to go. Just a lot more work lol.

Welcome, Wow pretty stout W!!
Gassers are popular again and you look to have a great start.
Look forward to following your build.
I'd rather do it myself if it's done right or not,,,isn't that what hotrodding is all about

When you start to work on it, start a build thread in the 64-65 Comets section. That's where most of the build threads for those years are. That way we can all follow along, and you've got one thread where all your build history is located for reference. Looking forward to watching it happen. :D

Welcome. I too just joined this site. Cant wait to see what unfolds in the coming months/years. Your project looks like a ton of work but as we all know, in the end it will be amazing.

Hope you keep the paint turquoise for that period-correct look, JMO.
