Re: ‘64 Falcon Track Project
I'd be tempted to try a larger carb.
But that's just me..

Thanks Joe! I thought of a 750 dp. Problem is it used to rev to the moon…not so much lately. Thinking the carb, fuel pump and lines are good enough. But idkJoe Travers wrote: ↑Tue Apr 29, 2025 11:31 amI'd be tempted to try a larger carb.

Just another thought, since you changed floats maybe toy with float level? my 4100 was finicky about levels. it was a 112 from a 352 , but surprised me how much levels changed things. Like Lou said ,might watch your a/f gauge @ 6-7 g's see if it leans out or something. good excuse to take a run up the canyon,

Re: ‘64 Falcon Track Project
If not A/F or ignition related, may be valve spring fatigue?
All of those prolonged revs and harmonics...
IDK, just throwing mud on the wall.

Yeah that’s a good idea. I’ll be taking it to the track this coming weekend. Might just be a test and tune weekend. I’ll verify the float levels too. A/F ratio when it gives out is something I didn’t check last time. I will this weekend…maybe even point the GoPro at the gauges and tach to get you alls opinions. Thanks Johnnie!poboyjo65 wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 10:36 amJust another thought, since you changed floats maybe toy with float level? my 4100 was finicky about levels. it was a 112 from a 352 , but surprised me how much levels changed things. Ugh that would suck. The engine has maybe 2500 miles on it but practically all of it at high RPM. Do you think the springs could wear out that quickly? I don’t know.Joe Travers wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 11:14 amIf not A/F or ignition related, may be valve spring fatigue?

The GoPro video of the gauges is a great idea! Get a vacuum reading @ WOT too, if you can.
That would rule out the carb thing.

Re: ‘64 Falcon Track Project
With a big bump stick and the rpm it certainly should be a consideration maybe even consider it maintenance. The valve spring source probably has a life span est. Pretty simple change though.comethead wrote: ↑Sun May 04, 2025 3:01 amUgh that would suck. The engine has maybe 2500 miles on it but practically all of it at high RPM. Thanks Fred and Joe! Working on it. Valve springs are Isky 505T solid cam springs. I’m gonna do a little research and see what I see.

Dudes! High RPM issue is fixed! I literally wore my dual points out!
On Saturday it was breaking up again at about 6100. Still smoking past lots of cool cars but the RPM limit wasn’t helping. Sunday Morning I swapped the points with some NOS Accel points I had and changed the condenser rotor cap and coil.. she revs clean to 7k again (I shift at 6500) But I don’t think I’ll go through the trouble of finding another set of spare points. I’ll probably bite the bullet and get an MSD ready to run distributer ($700!!
). Eventually.
But for some perspective on those points…they are the same set I’ve been running since Day 1. I have a few thousand high RPM miles on them and all I ever did was lube the cam and adjust them. I bought the distributer from an EBay vendor that rebuilds them and runs them on a Sun machine. He dialed it in to Boss 302 specs and its run flawless all these high RPM years. In fact the points that came in it were used haha! Anyway I hope these NOS points last me another 5 years.
Car ran great as always. Still didn’t beat my best time. Tires were melted so I couldn’t really get too buck wild out there.
Thanks for all the suggestions amigos.

Awesome!! Happy to read it!
I searched but couldn't find a post I read somewhere but it goes something like this.
"90% of all fuel problems are ignition problems"
The quote was on a car trailer door at Bonneville.

I thought you said they were darn good points?

(just kidding, yea I edited some words out

Re: ‘64 Falcon Track Project
Thanks Fred! Haha that’s good! Seriously the AFR gauge saved my rear by steering me toward ignition because the tach was going whacky and the AFR gauge was fairly stable at 6k. So I ass-summed an electrical issue.

If the advance mechanism is ok and the shaft bushings aren’t worn out maybe investigate a Pertronix conversion for your existing distributor. Life’s too short to fiddle with points….
