Hey Joe paint ain’t gonna make me faster!!
Fresh paint vs old paint, he might lose some downforce with the fresh paint. That thing is flying and he needs the old rough paint to create more downforce.

Joe, I always like following your thread it is very interesting. It makes me want to learn how to not just go straight all the time. When is the first track day this year?
Thanks Loman! I was just having a little fun with Fred

Lately the paint really doesn’t bother me. Seems like its just part of the cars history now and not a big deal. Some guys like it and some guys don’t. I was never much of a patina guy but now I have 2 cars with old paint and driving them is fun because there’s nothing to screw up!

Next track event is this coming weekend 7/8 May. Hoping to get some good pics and finally some decent video with my GoPro!

Joe

Yessir! I’m running a 1” spacer. Maybe a taller one? With the teardrop I have plenty of room.
My apologies, didn't catch that on the engine pics.
Might help if you're riding the chip most of the time? IDK but it's a cheap bet.

Riding the chip! I like that! 8)
The Pertronix rev limiter is actually set with 2 small rotary switches. No chips to ride

I think on the gnarliest parts of the track Im touching the limiter at 6500rpm. I’ll probably crank her up a couple hundred to try and crack 130mph on the front straight. Maybe a taller spacer could help

Ah, but the increased coefficient of friction caused by the old paint might slow the car to the point that the additional downforce isn't an advantage. Maybe the best route is to install a spoiler, then spray the whole car down with WD-40 to reduce the drag.

I see what you did here and agree 100% :P
Spoilers would be really cool but WD-40 would wreck the potential for paint adhesion

Guys I think y'all musta missed the episode of myth busters where they tried smooth golf balls against the regular ones with the dimples in em,then they made a VW bug up with dimples like a golf ball & it went faster & got better millage too. they spoke about dirty cars going faster on the same principle. :D

In that case, Joe, forget the paint, spoiler and WD-40, and just beat the hell out of it with a ball-peen hammer.

I've always wanted to drive a car w/ this setup for once, just to get a feel for it- https://www.piercemanifolds.com/Weber_C ... /k9107.htm

There was a guy at PF a few years ago that had a red 65 with a setup like that. It looked fast just sittin' there. 8)
