You'll know when its time to let someone else take care of it.

That oil is probably like a fine wine by now. "A fine finish with hints of moly and hydrocarbon bouquet".

probably let someone freshen up this toploader & put a Gearvenders od on it,new dr shaft made & a new aftermarker punkn with about 4:11-4:56 gear, maybe some adjustable control arms & shocks, little body work maybe. fuel injection? I'd like to get the underneath stuff done before I get too old to get er done.comethead wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 12:56 amAlright give us a list of the mods the Comet would get if you sold. we gotta weigh this out

Buy a toploader rebuild kit from David Kee and rebuild it yourself. I think you would be surprised at how simple they are. I have done a few toploader rebuilds with his kits, including the one in my Cyclone currently, they are very nice kits that really made my transmission shift and perform great.

My son has Gear Vendors overdrive in his new Fairlane w/ 4.11 gear and he loves it. He also has a Bronco XLT he completely restored he never drives, on the fence like you to sell. He could easily pay the car off and make upgrades if he decides to do so.poboyjo65 wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 1:41 amprobably let someone freshen up this toploader & put a Gearvenders od on it,new dr shaft made & a new aftermarker punkn with about 4:11-4:56 gear, maybe some adjustable control arms & shocks, little body work maybe. fuel injection? Totally understand the age thing. It doesn't get easier, that's for certain. I'm already there.

No, C6 but third is 1:1 like the 4 speed. He's cruising around town @ 1500 rpm w/ stock 600 Holley.
About as good as you can do for gas mileage.

4:33's would be FUN

I really would like for it to go away ,,,out of this area so my stomach dont cave in every time I see it.Lou's Comet wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 5:27 pmI am thinking BAT?poboyjo65 wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 1:41 am

& yes 4:33's would be fun.if I put 4:11's in I'd have a final drive of 3:21, if I put 4:56's in I would still be at 3:56 in 4th od.pretty close to my 3:50 that I have now. but with 4:33 I would have a noticeable better final drive of about 3:39, but have loads of ''jump'' down in low gear!

"loads of jump" that's a good thing right?
I got 4:11's for mine, gear venders is something I have been thinking about as a future thing. When I got the rear center section for mine I came close to getting 4:33's but a couple of my friends talked me out of them.

My 66 Mustang fastback, was my first car bought it for $300 in 1984, now has a 347 with 4.22 gears. I built a custom t-5 with .60 5th gear and cryogenically treated gears. Rockets down the strip and still cruises down the highway no problem.
